Travis County Commissioners Court
June 5, 2012 - Item 16
Agenda
>> 16, consider and take appropriate action regarding the application from Circuit of the Americas and Formula One for a Texas Mass Gathering Act Permit under Chapter 751, Government Code, and, if necessary, Travis County traffic regulations.
This goes to the Travis County traffic regulations more than anything else, right?
>> Yes.
>> Which we discussed this morning and that is why I move approval.
>> Second.
>> An opportunity for discussion?
Questions?
Comments?
>> Yes, sir, sorry.
>> Commissioner Eckhardt?
No problem.
That's why we're here.
>> I remain deeply concerned about what I consider an excessive public subsidy at the state and local level, but I will not hold my pick over that ransom for what I think has been a tremendous job done by our staff and also the cota staff in putting together a -- a very robust plan.
Thank you.
>> For those looking and wondering, the traffic regulations are intended to do what?
>> Well, it's set to allow the officers out in the field to enforce the restrictions that are out there.
It legally allows them to enforce those restrictions.
>> And remind us of what the restrictions are.
>> The restrictions are no parking, standing or stopping in a right-of-way on several of the roads near the site, and also on the roads where we have contra flow operations on, as well as no pedestrians or bicycles on those same lanes.
We have contra flow on pierce lane and kellam and mcangus.
>> We will monitor those during the first race to see if, in fact, they are sufficient.
If not, we'll add to them the second race, and if they are too sufficient we will reduce them.
>> True.
>> And we have your word on that.
>> Yes, you do.
>> And your picture and recording.
>> [laughter] any other discussion?
>> Can you clarify your motion?
You're just moving --
>>
>> [inaudible] traffic county traffic regulations.
Yeah.
That's right, right?
>> That's correct.
>> Yeah, I mean, that's -- and we just delayed action this morning because of time more than anything else, plus I never knew if there would be additional discussion that we needed.
Move approval.
Or did I do it already?
I'll do it again.
>> Second.
>> Discussion on the motion?
All in favor.
That passes by unanimous vote too.
Congratulations, mr. Vanilla and mr. Greer.
When you get unanimity from this court you have done something.
