>> 28, ms. Flemming is to approve request for assistance from the national forum for black public administrators for printing and sponsorship of youth to attend the 2011 conference.

>> good afternoon, sherri flemming, county executive for health and human services.
this item is before you today as a request from the national forum of black public administrators.
I have with me the local chapter president and our director of community services ms. Deborah briton.
as you know last year we partnered with the national forum for black public administrators for a public administration day where we actually were able to engage with some students who visited both county and city locations, to be able to learn about professions in public administration.
which is one of the missions of the nfbpa is for folks to seek out information in the area of public administration.
we are with you today to again request your support.
we have targeted the students who participate in our summer youth employment work based learning program, to be some of the participants in this program and it was extremely successful last year, so we would like to actually have 75 kids participant under county sponsorship this year.
that sponsorship would include their registration for the activities that day, their transportation, a speaker where a luncheon for the students and then transportation back to their campuses.
and ms. Briton, I'll let you -- did you want to add anything?

>> [laughter]

>> what schools participated last year?

>> I believe it was Austin high and lanier.
so we were identifying kids that have participated in summer youth employment and just actually the schools -- it wasn't by schools so much as by youth that participated in the summer youth employment program.
but we did focus our attention on those clusters of kids that -- that attended Austin high as well as lanier.

>> do we have a focus on kids with disabilities last year?

>> we did not have a particular focus for this effort.

>> okay.

>> of course, we do with summer youth employment and our numbers have increased quite a bit and -- in recruiting and retaining those kids.
so we're in our second session, not to segue into summer youth employment but --

>> right.
so the request this year is for an additional 25 kids do do to participate which would bring the number to 75.
it would also -- it is also to provide in kind printing as we did last year, as well as we've been also offered I think it's --

>> exhibit space.

>> exhibit space, which we will be exhibiting county programs as well as our tobacco cessation effort which is in line with the grant that we have with the city to inform the public about the tobacco cessation recommendations that we will be making to the Commissioners court at some point in the fall.
so the request is for a total of in-kind and financial support of $7,500.

>> we also partner with the city of Austin, right?

>> we do partner with the city of Austin.
I would like to say that this is the third year that we have presented this training and it's very important that we get the word out and that people go to our website, you can register online.
this is a unique training opportunity for public administrators in particular.
and if you will take a look at the costs of the training and the speakers and eight workshops and at least five public forums over a two day period, it's quite an investment and an opportunity for our staff to participate in.

>> move approval of the request.

>> second.

>> second.

>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
we had a contract last year, right?

>> a memorandum of understanding and thank you, judge, for recalling that.
because we would also request that the county judge be able to sign the agreement.

>> move

>> [indiscernible] friendly to have the judge also to sign the agreement.

>> second.

>> > without objection.
thank you.
