Travis County Commissioners Court
May 8, 2012 - Item 2
Agenda
Number 2 is consider and take appropriate action on an order concerning outdoor burning in Travis County.
did get an email from the fire marshal.
did last night's rain affect your thinking any?
>> well, it did.
herschel lee, Travis County fire marshal.
every time I send the judge a note saying I want to talk about the burn ban it rains so I would like to speak to you each Monday, weapons and Friday from this point on.
>> [laughter] in visiting with the chiefs yesterday morning by email, they pointed out it was getting very dry and they were beginning to see a number of grass fires around this the county.
but they thought we probably could hold off one more week and especially with the forecast.
some parts of the county last night got two inches of rain and so parts didn't get the dust washed out of the rain gauge.
what I wanted to come to today was put the information out to the citizens that the time is coming and probably very quickly when outdoor burning is going to have to stop for a while in Travis County.
so if you are creating that defensible space, if you have things that you need to get rid of by outdoor burning, you need to do that in a safe manner, but you need to do that very quickly.
be sure and remember to notify local fire department before you do any outdoor burning.
but there is coming a time very quickly now that outdoor burning will have to stop in Travis County.
unless I get to come up here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
>> [laughter]
>> so no action today.
that means that there is no burn ban.
>> that's correct.
>> okay.
