Travis County Commissioners Court

March 20, 2012 (Agenda)
Item 24

View captioned video.

24 is consider and take appropriate action regarding selection of furniture for Commissioners courtroom at 700 lavaca.
last week I suggested a method to choose the chairs.
anybody got a better method? Then we selected, we distributed pictures of five chairs.
and my recommendation was that you number these chairs one through five in order of preference, one being the most preferred and five being the least preferred and that we in open court put these basically this the hands of miss acre of my office would go go to her office and tally these and bring them back to the Commissioners courtroom and we would then read out the numbers and make our selection that way.
so do we need a little additional time to look at the picture?

>> let me remind --

>> [inaudible].

>> > okay.
and in my view it would be appropriate to do it in open court right now.

>> judge, I'll make my selection.
I only had one and that would be number 4.

>> [inaudible].

>> on that one, I think that this purpose ought to be one and the others five.

>> > miss eckerd, can you go to the office -- you know how we do the competitive bonds.
there are five chairs there and if we total them, the lowest number would be the most preferred by our collective judgment.

>> [inaudible] and all the others would -- that skews it a little bit.
so your top one is number 1? Looks like the county judge is the only one having fun in this exercise.
miss eckert, if you would come back to open court when you get those done, we'll call out the numbers.

>> absolutely.

>> what a divided democracy.

24.
consider and take appropriate action regarding selection of furniture for Commissioners courtroom at 700 lavaca, Austin.
furniture in question, basically.
are the chairs and the question is which one do we prefer.

>> and ms. Aker? As a diligent public servant, you have taken our wish list and -- and -- tallied it for us.
and based on these numbers, looks like chair no.
4.
which received a total of nine is the preferred chair.

>> yes, sir.

>> which one was that one?

>> the little black chair.

>> okay.

>> it is the second least expensive chair.

>> it wasn't my favorite, but I guess over time I'll learn to love it.
move that --

>> that chair was one of the ones that was here the first week.

>> okay.

>> move that we select chair no.
4 as the court's presence.
presence -- as the court's preference.

>> second.

>> and that one is called the sit-matic.
and

>> [indiscernible] posh.

>> the posh sit-matic.
the name of my next band, the posh sit-matic.

>> I'm tempted to say wise decision y'all.
but -- discussion on the motion? Was there a second.

>> yes, judge, I seconded it.
discussion? All in favor? That was unanimous vote, ms. Porter.
I'm impressed.
