Travis County Commissioners Court

January 17, 2012 (Agenda)
Item 24

View captioned video.

24, consider and take appropriate action regarding board and committee assignments and appointments for and by Commissioners court members.
last time we with did discuss Commissioner Eckhardt replacing me on the capcog executive committee and you will need something from the Commissioners court in writing to the executive director to accomplish that, I'm told.
so I move that we send capcog a written notice that the Commissioners court would like for Commissioner Eckhardt to be substituted for judge Biscoe on the executive committee of capcog.

>> second.

>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
we tried to clean up the our list of committees and such and there should be one with a January 17th, 2012, cover letter on that.
a little problem we ran into was on a lot of these there was no specific term expiration date.
we with put on there continuous thinking that at some point Commissioners court would probably have a work session on these and may come up with something more specific, but otherwise no expiration date would mean basically continuance.
and deece, I think you worked with miss Eckhardt to try to -- you submitted a list of changes, right?

>> I think, yes, just tried to clean up that list, the court's master list.

>> so we're leaving all the other committees pretty much the same, ones that the Commissioners court serves on?

>> yes.

>> do we want to add the i.t.s.
committee and now the hate crimes task force?

>> I think we should.
we expect those to be like indefinite, right?

>> I think those -- so we don't get into the continuous trap, we should set terms for them.

>> but I mean as a committee assignment, we'll add the -- the hate crimes task force will be around I guess until they conclude there is no longer work to do.

>> but that's with with the other appointments, they only are for the year and then we reconsider them at the subsequent year, even for those of us on the court, yes?

>> yeah.
on the hate crimes task force I challenge to get down to two.

>> that's a good problem to have.

>> if you agree to work for three --

>> [inaudible].
what was the second one we add?

>> the i.t.s.

>> i.t.s.
subcommittee.
you think it's listed on here, isn't it?
let me check.

>> there's a whole lot of them.
so are we leaving former mayor millson for the campo cities rep?

>> I think we with had talked about needing to come up with a plan for that appointment, which may take --

>> somebody who really represented a small city.
he had represented a small city formerly but was on campo and I thought our vote was just to leave him on because he's familiar with what is going on.

>> true.

>> right now he's just on as an individual private citizen.

>> right.
we had left him on to give us time to consider how he wanted to handle that appointment.

>> which we really haven't developed a protocol for that.
which we need to do.

>> that tells me to leave it on until further action.
we do have an opening for the community justice center advisor committee, looks like one vacancy.
can we think of anything else?

>> I'm looking for the courthouse team and I'm not seeing it.
but maybe --

>> did we leave the officers the same for the corporation?

>> I'm okay with

>> [inaudible].
I am not sure that this language really is specific enough to address corporations.
board and committee assignments.
boards or committee assignments.
I think we ought to have an item that just deals with corporations next week.

>> judge, I don't see the courthouse subcommittee.
so perhaps the three additions would be courthouse subcommittee, i.t.s.
and hate crimes.

>> okay.
that helps.
so Huber and I are on the the.

>> .

>> Huber and Biscoe are on the courthouse subcommittee?

>> it was on a previous spread sheet.

>> I would respectfully request to not be on that committee.

>> anybody else interested in courthouse subcommittee?

>> an eerie silence descends over the room.

>> if no one else wants it, I will take it.
the I guess that means I'm taking it.

>> I just scratched out Huber's name and put your down.

>> did we with add the organizational subcommittee for -- we talked about with that last week.

>> so you and I were on that?

>> uh-huh.

>> I think it should be on there.
what else?
so the other --

>>

>> [inaudible].

>> i.t.s., hate crimes.
we bring the public corporations back with specific language.
courthouse subcommittee, this will be four new ones.
plus the corporations once we bring those back.
okay?
well, we'll have it on again just in case.
and we'll come up with with another version that hopefully includes everything and try to recall whether we're missing something.
okay?
