Travis County Commissioners Court

January 3, 2012 (Agenda)
Item 18

View captioned video.

If you have business with the court today, you should head this way.
and we have one more item before we go into executive session.
and that item is number 18, consider and take appropriate action regarding board and committee assignments and appointments for and by Commissioners court members.
we have brought this up and we need to take action either the 10th or the 17th.
typically we take action about the middle of January and there is a long list of boards and committees on which we have membership or appoint others to serve.
and so can we spend a little time with this list between now and next Tuesday and maybe be ready to take some action?
some of these I have been on it seems like forever and I am willing to step down and -- or swap some other committees that will help.
some of them are really pretty important.
I feel a bit selfish being on them so long and there's plenty of fun to be had.

>> that sounds like a good suggestion.

>> judge, on some of these you've already taken action like the downtown Austin alliance.

>> okay.

>> Commissioner Huber is serving on that as opposed to me because of the redistricting that took place.

>> right.

>> and there was another one.
I can't remember -- was that it, Commissioner?

>> that's the only one.

>> but we have taken action on that one.

>> and some of them are really not that active.

>> right.

>> so the question is whether we should leave it in place anyway or whether we can do away with it.
but like that one, that's fine, just maybe update the information.

>> does the list live with melissa?
because there are a couple of cleanups we could probably clean it up a little between now and next Tuesday.
there are some items further down the list that just for -- just for history sake there are folks on the list that are no longer in those positions that we should probably check in with.

>> that would be fine.
updated information.

>> updated it and --

>> yeah.
I did not ask her to update it.
I simply asked for her to make a copy so we could be reminded.
I agree between now and next Tuesday if we could update the information, that would help.

>> and to relieve melissa some, you know, we could all dedicate these folks to cleaning the list.
the.

>> well, even if we have taken action recently, though, normally when we approve to take action in January, it's really for the next year.

>> uh-huh.

>> so --

>> with regard to our court appointment policy, I'm wondering -- I see deece here.
what did the policy recommendation say as far as it might be good to deploy deece and max to help out a little bit, to help melissa some on cleaning the list.
the sheriff has some appointments that -- terry pickerring is still on the list and he's now the sheriff of bastrop.

>> I guess if that group is still operating, the sheriff's office needs to bring in an appointee.

>> just to -- yeah, just to update those things.
there's a couple places where christian smith is still listed as the appointment or --

>> some of the others we need to update.
there are vacancies there.
either somebody retired or somebody stepped down.
there's a Travis County vacancy that we need to fill.
some of those other elected officials really sent us a selection.
but that's part of the updating process.
okay.
so we'll have this back on next week and make as many appointments and assignments as we can.
