3 is to approve resolution -- no.
3 is to prove resolution recognizing the central Texas chapter of the national forum for black public administrators for hosting the state of Texas' regional conference, leadership summit 2011, in Travis County.
we will have the original of the resolution later today.
okay?

>> all right.

>> should I read it?

>> it reads whereas on October 13th and 14th 2011 the central Texas chapter of the national forum of black public administrators, nfbpa, will host its 2011 leadership summit, foundation, building a foundation for the community stewardship at the omni south park hotel in Austin, Texas.
whereas nfbpa has distinguished itself as the premier organization for black leadership in the public sector, has a reputation for strengthening the capacity of multiple disciplines through training and multiple development programs, and provide workshops that will focus on how upcoming leaders can effectively take on challenges and opportunities regarding the protection of our environment and planning for the implementation of policies that ensures sustainability in our communities, the education and success of minority children, our criminal justice system from arrest to recovery and reentry, and ideas on how we can best impact the collective health of our communities, now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby recognize, encourage and value the efforts of the central Texas chapter of the national forum for black public administrators and offer this resolution and thanks for the commitment to the professional development of public administrators and pledge continued support in their endeavors to improve the lives of Travis County residents through exemplary public service.
that's a mouthful.
good morning.

>> good morning.
deborah britain, president of the Texas chapter for the forum for black public administrators, also the community services director with Travis County health and human services and veterans services.
joining me today is melanie smith digs to my right, also a Travis County employee with health and human services and ms. Latonya, who is also a Travis County employee.
both of whom are -- are chairs of -- melanie is the co-chair of the planning committee and latonya is the pr and media relations committee chair.
so they've been very busy in the last few days.
the conference is coming together beautifully.
but I wanted to take this time to -- to thank the judge and the court for your support.
without --

>> not necessarily in that order.

>> [laughter]

>> and I think that I have harassed most of you and asked for your assistance.
in participating in the conference because I think that it's very important that Travis County be featured at this conference.
we have quite a number of city of Austin employees, but I think that it's important that we -- that we expand that outreach to the county.
because the training that we provide is some that you cannot receive anywhere else.
we have over eight workshops, we'll have four public policy forums, that deal with the relevant issues that are facing this community.
so everything from criminal justice to education, sustainability, and health.
so -- so we -- we hope that -- we hope that this year we have at least in our department about 35 employees that would be attending and we hope to increase that in the years to come.
we have over 200 registered attendees and our marks of excellence luncheon will have over 500.
this is a luncheon where we actually present awards to those individuals in the community that have distinguished themselves in public service.
and I believe the judge was a recipient of one of those awards last year.

>> I thought that I was a lot younger, was it only last year?

>>

>> knock, maybe the year before.
okay.
maybe the year before.

>> any other comments.

>>

>> [indiscernible] also speak at one of these particular events and just wanted to let you know that I will be there to speak at the event and -- but I have a little conflict as far as scheduling is concerned.
but I will definitely be there.
I have another ground water meeting that is also scheduled roundabout the same time.

>> [indiscernible] in Travis County.
don't want anyone to -- to, you know, kind of wonder why I have to leave a little earlier than I would like to.
and so I think y'all are doing a great job.
thank you for including Commissioner Davis in your event.

>> thank you.

>> we really appreciate that.

>> we really appreciate that.

>> I don't know if you do or not.

>> [laughter] I was just playing with you.
but anyway, it is a great deal and -- and we have participated in several of those and -- in the past and you guys have kind of -- kind of looked to us for the leadership and then thank the court so much for what it does.
with the leadership of the judge and -- and this court.
it has come to be quite an eventful thing.
in fact I spoke with the city manager yesterday, city manager of Austin, of course, they are looking forward to -- as far as their participation I think in this event.
so it's kind of -- it's kind of spread out a little bit.
it should affect and impact several of our public administrators, in this particular service.
so I want to make sure that -- that it -- that it does just that.
again thank you all for allowing us to participate.
judge, did you make a motion?
I would like to second that.

>> not yet.

>> we will have high school what day?

>> on Thursday.
that's the public administration day.
we will have 75 high school students.
from -- from l.b.j., Austin high and reagan.

>> and Travis County has joined the city of Austin as one of the partners.

>> exactly.

>> one of the sponsors for the event.

>> absolutely.
they will also tour sites that include city of Austin sites as well as Travis County sites.
and I believe the judge, you will be there, to greet them on Thursday.
you will be greeting them on Thursday

>> [laughter]

>> Commissioner Davis, I won't be able to accompany you on those events that you mentioned.
I will go down there.

>> thank you very much, judge.

>> any or comments.

>> thank you for being such amazing ambassadors of Travis County and of public service generally.
it just a delight to see.
I know that the students must be so inspired.

>> well, our future public administrators.

>> there's -- there's no greater profession, in my opinion, than to be a public servant.

>> chairmanship is a powerful position, too.
moving on up.
move approval.

>> second.

>> president looks good on you.

>> thank you.
discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.

>> thank you all, see you Thursday.
