Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, September 27, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 38
>> 38, consider and take appropriate action on order designating the regular meeting days of Commissioners court of Travis County during fiscal year 2012.
we have met on Tuesday for at least the last 20 years.
I don't know if there is anything magical about Tuesday, but it does seem to be working.
>> I move Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
>> I was wondering if we should have an evening meeting occasionally for those who can't make it in the daytime.
>> now, we did try that at one point and we ended up being the only ones here.
95% of the time.
>> well, I offered it up.
people say that all the time they can't make it down here during the daytime.
so I think it's worth putting on the table.
>> once or twice a year we go from 6:00 to midnight and the rest of the time it would be us looking at one another and wondering why we didn't do it at 9:00.
that's the problem with being an old-timer.
anything else?
now, this is just the day of the week.
this is not necessarily the time of day.
so if we later -- if we want to try some evening meetings on a pilot basis and see what happens, I think we don't have to do that today, we can just do that whatever we want to and put it on the agenda, right?
but it does lock us into Tuesday if we pass the motion I'm thinking about unless we have -- we have two or three occasions annually when we don't do that, and typically if a holiday falls on -- if christmas falls on Monday, historically we have med on Friday the preceding Tuesday.
but I think on Friday if we want to try a pilot basis, we can do that.
>> I'm pretty much stuck on Tuesday, judge.
>> yeah, me too.
>> Tuesday is good, and we have typically started at 9:00, but the recommendation for our consideration is whether we want to try some Tuesdays starting later to accommodate those who may work and wish to come here.
those who give off at 5:00 or 6:00 and wish to come.
my motion is to designate Tuesday of each week as the regular meeting day of the Commissioners court.
seconded by Commissioner Gomez.
discussion on that motion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
