5 is to approve proclamation designating October 1 through 15, 2011 as "the eleventh annual bi-national health week" throughout Travis County.

>> whereas the secretary of health and foreign affairs in mexico, the ministry and foreign affairs of guatemala, el salvador, colombia, ecuador and peru, (le institute for mexicans abroad, the mexican social security institute and the u.s.
border health commission have recognized the necessity of improving access to health services for the underserved latino population in the united states of america and whereas according to 2006 united states census, this country is home to more than 44 and a half million people of latino origin.
whereas improving the health of mobile populations requires multiple approaches, in design, delivery, funding priorities and most fundamentally requires strong binational commitment and whereas in 2010 over 1.76 million people nationwide benefited from binational health week activities.
and whereas in Travis County, the consulate general of mexico coordinates binational health week as well as providing year round health week efforts, focusing on underinsured and uninsured latino populations to raise awareness of preventible owe and health services.
