Item 10
Number 10 is to consider and take appropriate action on license agreement with the textbook festival, inc.
to use county parking facilities on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 232011.
Commissioner eckhart has a question.
>> I'm sorry, most of this is because I've been sick, so I haven't had the time to check with y'all, the full court on this.
how long has this agreement -- how long have we done this agreement with the festival?
>> it's been about ten years now, ma'am.
>> and book festival is a nonprofit?
>> that's correct.
>> and we also have other agreements with central christian church.
>> that's an ongoing one, yes, ma'am.
>> do we have any other agreements for parking facilities?
I believe we do for the farmer's market.
>> farmer's market, and I believe that's the only other current on going parking agreement.
>> and there was a request at one point to utilize our airport parking for mobile food vendor.
>> that did not pan out, but you did remind me at the old chair king parking lot, we do lease out parking spots.
>> oh, yes, right.
I have asked before and we haven't quite gotten there, but I think we should pursue some kind of policy with regard to the utilization of our parking capacity.
we do have capacity that remains unused on weekends in the evenings, and I think that we need to have a plan for the utilization of that capacity, so I think we could utilize it much better for the neighborhoods around our parking capacity, not to mention our item later today about better utilization of our parking capacity for our own employees, and users, but I would ask facilities to actually do a plan for the utilization of our parking capacity.
>> Commissioner, if I could, we have reached out to parking systems of america unofficial approach and asked for some feedback from them.
>> that's great.
>> they operate the parking lot at 3rd and guadalupe, at that location currently.
so we're chasing it right now.
>> great.
I would love it to not be just that parking space but our parking capacity generally.
>> yes, ma'am.
we're asking them for feedback on all of the lots and ideas from them, then we'll bring that back to you.
>> I think we could utilize it better for our core function as well as for the enhancements of the communities around.
I move approval of 10.
>> second.
discussion on a motion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
thank you very much.
mr. Eckstein, I had to defend you a moment ago.
>> yes, sir.
apologies.
