Citizens Communication
Citizens communication is next.
this gives residents an opportunity to address the court on any matter not on the agenda.
gus pena is the first speaker.
morris priest is the second speaker.
dr. John k kim is the third peri.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners, gus pena, proud native east Austin night, proud united states marine corps veteran.
>> [indiscernible] special called meeting at the city of Austin, by mayor and council.
last Tuesday I left here, I went over there on another issue, found out that they were having a public hearing.
my comments were this, citizens participation in the celoc advisory committee, before you enter into any kind of an agreement, if there is to be an advisory committee, those requesting sponsorship prior to receiving state funding, it would behoove, it would be a good idea for that particular group to have inclusion of a member from north, south, east and west from the city of Austin Travis County, it was not done.
I requested that be done so it could be a more inclusive process.
otherwise that process will be tainted.
it's not good.
you have to have some citizens participation there, from whatever attorneys or staff, whatever law firm it's sponsored by.
also requested is a condition prior to signing on as a governmental sponsor, that the -- that the hispanic contractors association and african-american contractors association be given job opportunities in other words to -- if there's opportunities for employment out there, let these two entities participate in -- and -- in receiving job offers from the hispanic community and black community.
again, I'm hoping that will be taken into consideration.
July 4th celebration yesterday made me remind myself what an honor and privilege it is to be a citizen of the greatest country in the world of the united states of america.
even well united states of america -- even with the united states deficiencies I'm still proud to be an american home grown.
right or wrong.
I remember the homelessness, teen dropouts, pregnancies, needs of our youth not met.
the two most precious gifted segments of our society be left out of the loop and that not only -- not only nationwide efforts or lack of effort, but also by a legislative session.
judge and Commissioners, I didn't get paid for what I did over there.
it was volunteer work but I needed to do it because the people needed a voice over there at the redistricting committee, education committee, subcommittees, whatever, and what should have happened didn't happen.
that's why our residents here not only in Austin but throughout the great state of Texas are hurting because of the lack of leadership from a lot of elected officials over at the capitol.
we're suffering.
our kids are suffering, our senior citizens are suffering, but what we need is job opportunities and economic development, housing, mental health treatment, funding for our education, this was not done.
it is a sad situation when our governor, lieutenant governor, speaker, everybody else talks a good talk and did not walk the walk to provide funding for other people in need.
it's very sad for our country.
just not good.
please, please, I don't care if you are for -- I don't know anybody who is for war, please honor and respect and appreciate all of our military veterans coming back from the war in afghanistan.
show your appreciation, thank them for the job that they do for the service to our country.
we did it because we wanted to save our country from enemies foreign and domestic, that's what we're there for, that's why I joined the united states marine corps, have a good day, the society is measured by its treatment of the less fortunate, thank you very much.
>> thank you mr. Pena, mr. Priest.
>> thank you, judge, Commissioners, morris priest speaking on behalf of my -- on my own behalf.
how is that hope and change going for you?
the debt limit is just out of control with the obama administration.
we see it at the county level, we see it at the city level.
we do need change in Travis County, Austin and at the capitol.
some of us are feed up with the lies, it's very hard to compete against these laws, we have rhoda mae kerr saying race based promotions are totally acceptable for the city of Austin.
our fiasco with the fire marshal, all of this information put out here, time and time again we see how hard it is to compete against a law.
it seems like the truth falls out of our mouth, lands on the table in front of us, but a lyings around the world.
we see management at the city level, county level and federal level.
a lot of us are fed up and looking for new avenues of approach, whether it's a lawsuit -- whether it's lawsuits or recalls.
a recall would be a good idea.
start your engine.
formula one is coming.
who didn't know that?
a lot of us do like progress.
many of us here locally, a very small crowd very loud and vocal are getting all of the attention.
I guess it's because of our media, they seem to have turned into a bunch of mainstream media whores.
most people realize everything that's going on in our communities.
we don't have money for the trail of lights.
we don't want to celebrate anything that comes close to celebrating the life of cyst.
we sure don't want to celebrate Texas independence day.
sure don't want to celebrate our national independence day.
so we have all of the people that are constantly getting the ears of our elected officials.
all of the people constantly getting the ears of our media, more and more people are waking up.
I think that you have seen this in some of the things that's happening in our country.
many of the things that are happening are really subtle.
I'm not sure if everything is taking place.
I do know that people that are coming to realize what's going on are getting active.
we saw this this past legislative session with our budget.
what we couldn't get accomplished through legislative means in the bills itself we did get accomplished in appropriations.
so a lot of people have had a lot of success down at the capitol.
it's been a constant learning curve, changing because things change so fast with the bills changing and they take it out of one bill, put it in another, water it down, but most of us weren't interested in the non-issues such as tsa, but we were interested in things that our police chief is not interested in, and that's the illegal invasion that's happening in this city.
we don't think that we should subscribe to having the sanctuary city or a safety zone or any of the other issues that many people in this community thinks is really important.
but most of us want to live in america.
most of us love america.
>> [buzzer sounding] and -- and hope y'all will stay tuned.
the revolution will be televised.
thank you.
>> thank you, mr. Priest.
dr. Kim.
