Travis County Commissioners Court

Tuesday, July 5, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 17

View captioned video.

17 is to consider and take appropriate action regarding considerations for the Travis County healthcare district: a, ad valorem Texas exemption under tax code section 11.24 for historical structures; and b, ad valorem tax exemption for 65 and older and disabled residents.
and the health care district has the same exemptions as Travis County.

>> that's correct.
I was in contact with the health care district, john stevens, their cfo, he has no problems with the recommendations.
the court made for -- for Travis County.

>> that's why I move approval.

>> second.

>> judge?

>> that would be over 65 and disabled, $65,000, the historic property exemption same as now.

>> same as the current year.

>> Commissioner Eckhardt?

>> I would ask that we include -- we include the health care district board in our conversations with the city.
on the -- on the historic exemption because -- because frankly the legislature really -- really -- seriously affected the health care district's funding stream and -- and I think that we should include the health care district on those discussions because -- what's at stake for them is a little different than what's at stake for us.
our interests are aligned, but they are not exactly the same.
I think they should be included in those discussions because they may have less reason to continue historic exemption.
it's -- I would imagine that it would be difficult for them to see their way clear to a policy rationale for subsidizing historic preservation given their mission and the critical state of their funding stream.

>> any discussion on the motion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
I join Commissioner Eckhardt's emotion to work with the board as well as upper management.

>> sure -- we'll sure sure that we have representatives from the board and/or the upper management of the health care district.

>> okay.
thank you.
