Item 4

View captioned video.

Item 4, consider and take appropriate action on an order concerning outdoor burning in the unincorn rated areas of Travis County.

>> good morning, judge, herschel lee, Travis County fire marshal.
our current ban will expire tomorrow, June 29th.
the recent rain dropped the drought index to approximately 560.
the drought index is now back up to 596 and rising 6 or 7 points a day.
some areas in Travis County already be as high as 683.
the u.s.
drought monitor lists Travis County still in the exceptional drought category, which is the highest category.
there are 233 counties now with burn bans and my recommendation is to have a new burn ban for Travis County.
and if that's the action taken by the court, that would expire July 28th.

>> sue the current burn ban expires the 29th.

>> tomorrow, yes, sir.

>> any additional comments?

>> we certainly in the sheriff's office support the fire marshal's recommendation tore the continued burn ban.

>> Commissioners, any questions, comments?

>> that's to the sheriff's department for their heightened enforcement.

>> mr. Connally has some comments.

>> you asked last week about house bill 1174.
it did pass, it was signed by the governor and it was effective immediately so the Commissioners court now has the option to designate the judge or the county fire marshal to lift the burn ban if that's what the court desires to do.

>> when is that law effective?

>> it was effective immediately.

>> why don't we have an appropriate item on the court's agenda next week or maybe the 12th.
next week, it should be pretty routine.
the county judge has too much power already.
maybe we ought to give this to the fire marshal.

>> [laughter] let's post it for court next week.
do we need some sort of order?

>> it would just be included in the order.
and I think you could take that action the way it's posted today with regard to the order prohibiting outdoor burning.
we would just include that --

>> I feel a whole lot better bringing it back.

>> that would be fine.
put it on next week.

>> that will give mr. Lee an opportunity to contact me if he needs to.
so the motion covers extension of the outdoor burn ban through July --

>> 28th.

>> -- 28th.
any discussion on the motion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
