Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 3
Number 3, consider and take appropriate action on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> the current average drought index across Travis County is 606, with some areas being as high as 673.
the 14-day outlook provided by Texas forest service keeps us in the six to 700 range.
currently there are 187 counties in Texas with burn bans and 75% of Texas is in an extreme to exceptional drought category.
one of our neighboring counties had a 280-acre fire over the weekend that was sparked by a spark coming from a train, possibly the brakes.
the conditions just have not improved.
they're continue to go get worse.
my recommendation is to put a new burn ban in place.
the current one would expire tomorrow.
if a new burn ban is enacted today, it would expire June 29th.
>> questions or comments?
move that we approve a new burn ban, which will be effective June 29th, 2011, that we carry this item on the agenda from week to week just in case we are flooded and don't need it.
>> second.
>> discussion on the motion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
thank you very much.
