Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 2
Number 2, consider and take appropriate action on an order considering outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners, tony calloway with the Travis County fire officer's office.
we did receive some rain, unfortunately it wasn't quite enough.
we're still labeled as being in the exceptional drought category, the most severe category for drought conditions.
the good news with the little bit of rain put us into the moderate category with the average currently at 565.
however, with the outlook provided by the Texas forestry service, it appears we're going to move immediately back into the high risk area within the next few days.
so unless we see some substantial rain throughout the remainder of the week, we're still in the same situation we were in last week.
>> but the reading today is 560.
>> 565 is average.
there are portions of the county that are much higher than that.
unfortunately in the furtherrest portions of the eastern and western parts of the county we're up as high as 645.
>> questions, comments?
court members?
by taking no action, we leave the current ban in place.
>> that is correct.
>> it expires --
>> June 1st.
>> so we have next week to consider it.
also.
>> yes, sir.
>> thank you very much.
>> thank you.
