Travis County Commissioners Court

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 1

View captioned video.

Item number 1 is a public hearing to receive comments regarding the proposed street name change from maha loop road to burklund farms road in precinct 4.

>> move the public hearing be open.

>> second.

>> all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.

>> I'm steve manila from t.n.r.
essentially, though, we have a situation where maha loop road is used for different sections of road, and they don't necessarily follow the same same alignment for maha loop road and that causes some confusion when it comes time to dispatch emergency service providers to the area.
so what we are proposing to do is change one segment of maha loop road southward, change that to burklund farms road.
the process was that we issued ballots to the property owners, there were 27 along this segment of road.
we received 8 responses favorable to the selection of burklund farms road.
7 others had selected a different name.
we would recommend going forward with the name change to burklund farms road.

>> any other comments?
so this other name, was that a variety of names or did seven land on one name?

>> it was one name and it was --

>> two names that were offered.

>> could you let them know what those were?

>> there were two names offered.
one was for dory road and one was burklund farms road.
so eight chose in favor of the burklund farms road.
seven for dory, so it was neck and neck.

>> and the 911 perspective on this is what?

>> would you guys like to comment on the benefit.

>> stephanie jones, city of Austin 911 addressing.
this is the beginning of a larger project in the area.
there's a lot of confusion with street names and addressing in the Mustang Ridge area within the city and within the county.
and what prompted this has been through the years a number of calls from e.m.s.
and tcso and Mustang Ridge police department asking us to fix some problems because there's been delays in response.
and so this is the first -- kind of the first phase of the project, of a larger project to help straighten all of that out in the area.

>> we are post to do have a public hearing.
if you would like to give comments on item number 1, please come forward.

>> I move the public hearing be closed.

>> second.

>> all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
this will be action item number 6 on today's agenda.
by the way, for those of you here on item number 10, you do not need to complete the citizens communication form.
we will call that item up at 10:00.
and all who wish to give comments will be given an opportunity to do so.
again, you do not need to complete the citizens communication form.
