Number 23 is consider and take appropriate action on recommendations regarding the Travis County Fire Marshal, a, reappoint Herschel Noah Lee as Travis County Fire Marshal for a term certain not to exceed two years.
b set an appropriate salary.
and c, approve renewal of current bond.
and we indicate c may be taken into executive session, meaning b and c.
Mr. Hobby has an important commitment this afternoon, which is why we're calling up this item and the next one first.

>> thank you very much.
as is the process, this is an appointed position, so therefore for the Travis County fire marshal it is important that I come and request from you that we either appoint or reappoint our Travis County fire marshal.
the two years is up now and so I’m asking you today to consider and take action regarding the reappointment of mr. Lee.
and it would start may 19th, 2011 and go for a two-year term.
I have surveyed and gone out and talked with all the people that herschel works with and we have received very favorable response.
I’ve also in the backup given you what I consider to be some of his successes and achievements since he's been fire marshal.
it's been my pleasure to work with him and see him work with not only his staff and his office, but also with all the various people that he has to do daily contact with from contractors to first responders to Commissioners to you name it, he's out there involved in it.
and of course you see him every Sunday as your burn ban person, but he does a lot more than that.
>> we about him on Sunday, but see him on Tuesday.
>> there are a lot of people that call him.
some of it is wanting to get that burn ban lifted.
especially this past week.
the second thing I have list sheriff's department that you consider a salary, and y'all usually do that as well.
as we do on the appointments or reappointments.
so if y'all would consider that, since we're at that point.
the third is to renew his bond.
and of course risk management takes care of that and they're already working on that and will take care of that for us.
so I’m just here today to answer any questions that you might have, but mainly here today to ask that you reappoint herschel noah lee as Travis County fire marshal.

I think you can do us a favor by telling mr. Lee not to expect anything real, real positive on that one, just a positive discussion.
