Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, April 26, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 14
Item -- let's see.
can we do 14?
yeah, we have plenty of time.
consider and take appropriate action for funding of renovations on the ned granger building fifth floor for the district attorney's public integrity unit including move cost from 700 lavaca to ned granger building.
>> I just had a question.
do security card readers really cost $10,000?
particularly when half that area already has -- my question is does the security card readers for the fifth floor, I mean does it really cost $10,000?
there's already security on the i.t.
portion of it.
I just wanted to know more detail.
>> good morning, roger el khoury.
we are doing a very minimum renovation over there and as a matter of fact we have several new locks there for a couple rooms. And we have also the three card readers.
the cost might not be $10,000.
that's what we get from vendors at this time and we are going to negotiate.
this is only a budget item.
if we don't spend it, it's back.
this is just --
>> back where?
>> usually the card readers cost about $2,000.
that what we have.
and we're thinking the number we've got about $10,000 including contingency to it but it's a high side.
>> for the whole project too --
>> huh?
>> there's already a contingency number for the whole project.
>> right, for that item.
it's only $2,000 plus or minus.
that's what we've been running those card readers, and we have the lock set for two different offices.
it's a little on the high side, but that's a budget number.
>> but the money will remain there in that account.
>> right.
>> it's not --
>> the remainder will stay in the project or go back to the
>> [indiscernible].
>> any other comments?
>> but the rest of this, just to let you know, we're doing very minimum reservation to that fifth floor.
>> it seemed high to me because it was just painted last year and you are moving office space to office space so I was looking for more details.
>> a lot of doors have to be changed.
on the p.b.o.
side we're not doing any painting because we've done that about like a year, a couple years ago, but certain area on the i.t.s.
area we have to do some paint and a couple offices we have to do carpet and some more demolition and adding new walls.
some of those stuff right there, it goes about like $14,000.
that's all.
and as you can see, the move about like -- it's coming from 700 lavaca over here, that's an additional cost.
and we've broken down right there by item and item.
so we just -- the security item, it was a little bit high, but
>> [indiscernible].
>> I welcome the public integrity to the fifth floor.
I want them to have facilities appropriate for them, but I still think 10,000 is too high on.
that.
>>
>> [inaudible] to really come to closure.
I mean with all the other security things and all the other things that need to happen for the move over here on the fifth floor, how long will it probably take with all the -- with all the moving parts?
somebody tell me how long will it take?
>> I'm jim barr with facilities management department.
the move will take place on may 13th.
it will take probably one day to move that number of people.
and the -- we're doing a very minimal amount of painting and carpet, just to bring the space up to what we consider to be normal standards for a temporary space.
we anticipate they will occupy the space for about one year.
>> okay.
I move approval.
>> second.
>> all in favor?
thank you very much.
>> thank you.
>> thank you all.
