Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, April 19, 2011 (Agenda)
Item 27
27, consider and take appropriate action on an interlocal agreement to partner with the city of Austin on implementing zero waste goals in Travis County.
>> this is an effort that has been moving through the machinery of the county and city government for some time.
in a good sense, going at a nice pace.
looking at both internal efforts that the county and the city could understand take together or separately but in collaboration, as well as regulatory efforts that the city and county could take either together or separately with collaboratively.
the idea is that we would approach this effort much as the clean air compact did in identifying what statutorily was available to us, what was available to us with regard to the purchasing act pertaining to cities and counties, which is different for cities and counties.
cities have certain rules and counties have others.
as well as what we are doing internally with regard to zero waste.
so this agenda item today is to bless staff to move forward with negotiating or at least beginning the negotiation process on an interlocal agreement and process for implementing such an interlocal agreement.
>> did we pass the resolution to partner with the 9?
>> I believe it's in the memo.
I think we passed it last year.
maybe November.
>> April 2008.
>> there you go.
further.
>> in support of zero waste efforts.
>> even further back.
so this has been, like I said, moving through the halls of both entities for some time.
with conversation about what we do internally, what we can do under purchasing act and whatnot.
the idea here was just to memorize the process and make the, frankly, a more formalized pros with the idea of coming forth with the document eventually that says this is what we commit to do, and this is how we commit to do it.
>> move that we agree to partner and indicate our interest in seeing this interlocal as soon as possible.
>> second.
>> which is to direct staff to work with the city in good faith to achieve one.
that was Commissioner Eckhardt's motion.
>> I thought that was your motion with Commissioner Gomez seconding it.
>> I remember a few items.
>> all right.
>> discussion.
all in favor.
that passes by unanimous vote.
