Number 6, consider and take appropriate action to establish and sponsor a Travis County combined charities 5k and kids k event for employees, retirees and dependents.

>> (indiscernible) from the employee wellness committee and to my right is (indiscernible) and dell rogers with run tex and kelly darby -- kelly page with the Travis County sheriff's association.

>> sheriff's office.

>> sorry.

>> as you're aware, recently we were named one of the central Texas' healthiest large employers.
and I think that's a testament to all of the programs that you support and we thank you for that and we're excited here to announce and request for your approval of a fun run walk may 15th at the expo center, called the Travis County combined charities 5 k and kids k.
we would like it to be a free event paid for by the Travis County health facilities development corporation.
we're asking for a donation of five dollars for each adult, two dollars for each child.
we're requesting several actions for your approval so we can prepare for the event.
I would also like to turn the discussion over to zeta garnett because there will be a wellness fair there also, and paul would like to discuss the training program that his company is pleased to help us support.

>> good morning, judge and Commissioners.
zeta garnett.
as travis mentioned, this is going to be our first event for Travis County employees, retirees and their dependents.
we're going to -- the clinic is going to be a major part in it.
they're going to be doing blood pressure measurements, glucose analysis and bmi, body mass index, along with several other vendors that we're going to have at the fair along with educational programs that employees can seek on fitness and health and wellness.
paul is also going to be doing an eight-weeks training.
I will turn it over to him and he can discuss that eight weeks training that he's offering for our Travis County employees.

>> good morning.
we have seen as we've gone about the community talking about education and why kids lose interest from an exercise and diet perspective, it's very difficult to sustain.
we found that purposeful training is a much more effective as people consider themselves endurance athletes and train for an event, that they have a -- they're engaged and they're able to feel like an athlete and become excited about their exercise versus feeling like it's a chore.
so what we're offering is to bring our coaching out and being able to pace yourself and become an endurance threet is not something that people know how to do on their own.
they need a coach.
all athletes have coaches on a team when they're train fog an event.
we're here to help Travis County have their own event.
we've had plenty of examples where we've had events for institutions.
we've done it for faith-based institutions, for dell, where we offer a 5 k for their employees and families.
and it's had great response.
so we're -- we hope you will consider doing that as well.
we want to come in and help provide the expertise and infrastructure to make the event happen.
and then come in and coach ahead of time so that people can get in shape for their event.
so at the end of the day you will have -- in my mind three to five hundred folks that have gotten more active because of this event and people get healthier and more active and they get more productive.

>> thank you.
zeta just passed out what it will look like.
we've taken the liberty to assume that you will be at the convenient and have printed those up for you.
I think one -- thank you, paul, for your great design on that.
one thing I want to highlight is it will have the employee's name on it, the department right below it.
it will also note if you're a retiree or a family member.
so I think it will just -- it will be great to see all the different participation from everybody when we're out there either walking or running.

>> okay.

>> what day of the week is this?

>> that's Sunday.
the event again is at nine a.m.
for children.
the nen at 9:30 there will be a 5 k for adults.
that's about 3.1 miles.

>> for the children in training as well?
children are in training?

>> there's no -- is there a training program for children?

>> I don't think we have plans on that.
but we'd be happy to add that.

>> they're pretty active right now.

>> .6 of a mile won't take too long to finish.
and I would also like to thank the sheriff's office for graciously being a part of this and handling our crowd control, pedestrian control and traffic control.

>> just a bit on the traffic control.
we will be utilizing officers who are on duty.
it will not be overtime incurred for this event.
and the community outreach unit will be assisting in addition to the traffic control units.

>> what prize do I get for beating the county sheriff to the finish line?

>> [ laughter ]

>> I'll let him determine what that prize will be.

>> [ laughter ]

>> you can run this 3.1 miles, you can walk it or crawl it, but we want you to finish, right?

>> yes.
we will be up there with volunteers supporting it, providing refreshments.
it will be a great time.

>> okay.
is there none may the wellness -- is there money in the health facilities corporation?

>> yes, sir.

>> so what's requested today is for us to establish and sponsor.
the event.

>> that's correct.
we're also asking you to approve the combined charities run walk and we willness fair, authorize the use of the expo center grounds and banquet hall and cover the cost of the utilities, authorize the wellness activity to solicit vendors and sponsors.
approve printing of fliers and event information to promote the event.
I would like to point out that run tex has generously agreed to sponsor our posters that we will be posting out at county departments and offices.
also to encourage Travis County employees and retirees to participate in the event.
and approve the distribution of event materials to employees and retirees on the health plan.
we have e-mail for about 460 of our 590 retirees on the health plan.
we'll be e-mailing them information.
for those 120 or so retired who don't have, we'll be mailing them the information so they can get out and participate as well.

>> I move approval of all of the above.

>> that word sponsor is just packed with meaning, isn't it?
okay.
we will need a separate item on the corporation?

>> yes.

>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
Commissioner Eckhardt had to run to take care of a family emergency.

>> thank you very much.

>> thank y'all very much.
looking forward to the 15th of may.

>> miss fleming, are you nearby?
