Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, March 15, 2011,
Item 1
Item 1 is to consider and take appropriate action on an order concerning outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> morning, judge, Commissioners.
>> morning.
>> tony calaway with the Travis County fire mayor shall's office.
currently the burn ban is set to expire April 6th.
unfortunately I have to report to you all today that it appears prepredict over the next 14 days that drier conditions are going to worsen.
our current kbdi index averages 43 with a high of 544.
it's predicted to climb to an average of 519 and a high of 574.
the fires that have occurred throughout the state of Texas, grassfires, have been throughout the entire state scattered.
it has not been clustered to one area as we've seen in the past.
the other unusual situation that has occurred throughout this long drought period is normally we see a defined point along the i-35 corridor.
and many times we're on the west side of the county and it's much drier than the east portion of the county.
in this dry spell that we're undergoing currently right now, our two extreme conditions are occurring along the entire eastern border, southeast and along the west border all the way south of the county.
the two areas that are mainly rural areas where we would see a lot of outdoor burning are two severe areas that would be under the 544 average or max, and are predicted to climb all the way to 574 in the next 14 days.
so it would be my recommendation that the court keep the burn ban in place.
>> questions?
thank you very much.
so by taking no action we leave the current burn ban in place.
