Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, March 1, 2011,
Item 21
Number 21 is to consider and take appropriate action on request from miss amy valdez for return of her deposit for an event that was planned to be held at the exposition center, skyline club.
>> judge, I have a couple of comments on this.
>> ox.
>> we had a similar refund come before the court awhile back.
and at that time I said, why do we not have a policy in place that automatically deals with this.
when I looked at the backup on this particular one, it looks to me like people are being delayed in refunds.
and I just question that we shouldn't have a policy in place, and if we do, let's implement it.
because I don't know that we should at the court level be having to go in and approve policy refunds at this amount.
so I would just like to say, do we have a policy that allows staff to make refunds?
if not can we investigate putting one in place?
it's a timely factor.
it's a privacy factor for the people who are involved in this.
the one before was one that I wouldn't have wanted the person to have to have their background before the court because it was financial issues.
so I would like to know the status of that.
if there isn't a status report, get one.
it.
>> judge, I'm danny hobby, executive manager of family services.
I'm assuming this was a routine item.
roger was out in the haul awhile ago but to answer your question, Commissioner, I can't answer that.
if we can I'll get him back in here.
>> we do not have a policy that authorizes staff to give refunds.
historically those matters have been brought to the court.
on something as simple as this I think it's easy to put it on a consent motion.
but if we want to put a policy in place, it's fine with me.
there are several considerations that I think we need to discuss before we implement such a policy.
but if we want to stick an item on the agenda and put a policy in place, fine with me.
on this one, I think clearly we ought to refund this deposit.
>> absolutely.
I move approval on this one.
>> the amount was in the language.
I took the amount out.
it's $230 basically.
discussion?
all in favor.
that pass by unanimous vote.
I mean, if we have a policy I think I ought to be up to a certain amount and when it's fairly routine just get it done.
I agree with you on that.
>> anybody here from the clerk's office on 23?
