Travis County Commissioners Court
Tuesday, February 15, 2011,
Item 2
Item number 2, consider and take appropriate action on an action considering outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of tract.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners.
hershell lee, Travis County fire marshal.
it's dry and predicted to get drier.
over the past several days we've had brush fires, one of our neighboring counties had a 115-acre fire and lost a lot of hay.
the prediction by Texas for rest service are for the next 60 days we'll continue to see a drying period, but I believe the last average freeze date for this area is about March 15th to 20th, along in there.
and somewhere along in that time we should begin to see see green-up and would be able to get relief from the toss built of fire spreading.
right now the danger of fire spreading is very great and my recommendation is leave the burn ban in place.
>> questions, comments?
by taking no action we leave the burn ban in place.
>> that's correct.
>> thank you very much.
