Item 23
Beginning text of 23 unavailable...
>> economic policy issue for the county.
>> a little more than an hour --
>> I’m sorry.
>> it's the idea of the $150,000 be in travis traviscounty's hands.
simply we would go in the opposite direction.
>> we've looked at some opportunities for others to kind of take the lead in terms of being the fiscal agent on this and because of some of the structure of the other organizations that are looking to participate, it became a little bit problematic for that to happen, and so --
>> I don't have any problem with it.
I just think we need to make sure we talk to our financial folks.
>> I’ve talked to susan.
she's fine with it.
I’ve talked to sid.
she's comfortable with the process being able to be worked.
who else should we talk with?
>> if we talk to susan, it's --
>> that's a base you always cover first.
>> [laughter]
>> council, if that's -- signed off here.
>> so the study basically would cover what's outlined under the opportunities section?
>> it will -- well, it will take a look at household spending, tourism, the lake industries, the property values, sales tax revenues generated.
it will be primarily a quantitative analysis from the picture standpoint as an economic driver, and it will take -- it will look at lake levels as it relates to parks.
we already have one study, sort of a preliminary that will be looked at in a broader perspective from our parks.
>> find them on page 1, and page 2.
>> uh-huh.
any other questions, court members?
>> I just want to make sure, I think it's a good idea, Commissioner, that you bring forth water quality and, you know, quantity is critical, all across the county, not only in the Lake Travis area and those particular persons that do business in the -- and the other folks that use it for recreational use, economic uses and other means, water is like gold.
it's getting to be that point, and you've got to make sure it's around and the quality of it.
but I want to make sure that the other parts of the county, we've got some serious challenges also and I want to make sure that the same vigor that's been demonstrated here today on this issue as far as water is demonstrated and we've got serious situations in my precinct I know with water situations.
we experienced drought, an example that was just unprecedented.
this whole county did.
we have to look in a way to get people water.
it's all across the board because it affects the economics in precinct 1 and precinct 3 and other parts of the county.
so I want to be sure that the same vigor and all of these things we're doing today is pervasive through other parts of the county that need the same type of attention, so I just want to make sure we get that across the board, and Commissioner, I think it's a great idea what you're doing.
thank you.
it's all over the county.
>> we have to keep looking for tools like this that will further
>> [inaudible] interest to our taxpayers and our citizens.
>> I have no problem with it.
>> judge, I’d like to move, then, that we -- that Travis County support participating with the other stakeholders in commissioning a study -- consultant to study the economic value of Lake Travis and that we commit $20,000 towards this project, and that we agree to serve as fiscal agent for the stakeholder group, the interlocal locals agreements that would be brought back later as they were executed, drafted and executed, and provide in-kind services including legal, scientific and facilitating contract procurement for the project.
>> second.
>> do you
>> [inaudible]?
any discussion on the motion?
all in favor.
that carries unanimously.
thank you all much.
joe, I figure you have five weeks to move on that -- Commissioner Davis's recommendation.
>> [laughter] it will be a going-away present for us.
>> I’ll do my best.
