Travis County Commissioners Court

Tuesday, November 9, 2010,
Item 5

View captioned video.

>> number 5 is to approve resolution in support of the lower colorado river authority efforts to manage and enhance water supplies with the water management plan.
this tuj item is spontserred by Commissioner Huber and me.
we were requested to do this by another one of our county judges in central Texas and they plan to present a set of resolutions to lcra very very soon, so I think it is appropriate that we join our colleagues and the resolve clause is that the Travis County Commissioners court encourages the lcra to aggressively move forward efforts that would enchance water supplies for the entire basin while recognizing the diverse and critical concerns of all interests, otherwise I think that the resolution is fairly straightforward.
any additional comments?

>> I want to say that the lcra was born out of a coalition of counties along the colorado river initially.
and with the changes in the population and in the growth along the colorado river basin, we're beginning to face new and competing interests along the colorado river.
and so this is sort of a revisiting effort of a coalition of counties.
and judge claiger and some -- from burnet county and several of the on the lcra's water management plan advisory panel that represent the highland lakes in travis and burnet counties went down to matagorda county this past weekend to meet with our counterparts down there, the rice farmers.
and began to build relationships so that we can collectively advise lcra in working on their current provisions to the management plan in ways that will work for the entire river basin.
and this is the resolution in support of that effort.

>> second?
discussion?
naifer favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
with the court's permission we will send the original to judge claiger as soon as possible.
