>> number 3, approve proclamation for the 27th annual national night out event on october 5, 2010. Should i read the proclamation? It reads whereas the national association of town watch is sponsoring a unique nationwide crime and drug prevention program on october 5th, 2010 called national night out, whereas national night out is designed to, 1, heighten crime awareness, 2, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, 3, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. And 4, send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Whereas the 27th annual national night out provides travis county a unique opportunity to join forces with thousands of other communities around the world in promoting cooperative police and community crime and drug prevention efforts. Whereas the travis county sheriff's office plays a vital role in establishing joint crime and drug prevention efforts in travis county and its supporting -- and is supporting national night out 2010 locally. Whereas the travis county sheriff's office encourages all citizens to become aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact their individual and collective participation can have on reducing crime and drug abuse in travis county. And whereas police-community partnerships and neighborhood safety and awareness cooperation are important themes of the national night out program. Now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the travis county commissioners court encourage all citizens of travis county to join the sheriff's office and other law enforcement agencies, local business sponsors and the national association of town watch in supporting the 27th annual national night out, and i move approval.

>> second.

>> comments?

>> yes. Judge biscoe and commissioners court, i'm chief deputy jimville stester with the travis county sheriff's office. I want to thank you for the proclamation from the court for national night out. We're excited to say that since the inception of the national night out 27 years ago i believe that the sheriff's office has been very involved in the community promoting national night out for the entire time. And the deputy james kitchens will have a few stats to give you in a minute and he will be the contact person. If anyone out there in the viewing audience would like to participate in the national night out, we can contact deputy kitchens at 854-8413. It's not too late to join the party. We would love to have everyone out there. It's a great opportunity for the community to come out and have a celebration for a safe community with the sheriff's office, fire and e.m.s. And of course always like everyone, let's keep the party going rear round and not have one party a year. If you want to have a party another time, please call us out to your community events and we will be glad to participate. I will turn it over to deputy kitchens.

>> james kitchens with the travis county sheriff's office, community services and outreach unit. Each of you have before you a t-shirt here that says join our gang. This is something that was put together here with the local national night out groups, law enforcement agencies and community partners. One of the sleeves there has a notation on it, 15 years. That means the state of texas for 15 years running has been number one in the nation. As far as participation in national night out, texans take things seriously just like we do crime in our neighborhood and our community and the crimefighting efforts show it with the community and law enforcement working together. We thank you for your support in the proclamation for national night out i know many of you attend block parties. Each one of you get the list that are in travis county and we appreciate your participation in that. With that being said i'll turn it back over to the court and we ask for a picture with the proclamation and the national night out sign.

>> i have one complaint.

>> yes, sir.

>> my complaint is this: please give me an extra large?

>> [ laughter ]

>> i will fix that.

>> [ laughter ]

>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
