Item no. 1. Approve proclamation recognizing madeleine frady as an honorary deputy sheriff for travis county and declare august 29, 2010 through september 4, 2010 as "madeleine frady week" in travis county. Is that madelyn or madeline?

>> good morning, how are you doing.

>> i tried to get it right. Let's go with madeline this morning.

>> judge biscoe, commissioners, i would like to say that we're here , it's part of our ceremony, we have had a ceremony yesterday for madeline frady, the mother of heather marquez, a corrections officer, also stepfather joe stan a retired lieutenant at the travis county lieutenant's office and the father adrienne frady, one of the things that we find out about 30 days ago was that madeline was suffering from cancer. One of the things that she always wanted to be was a law enforcement officer just like her stepdad and her mother. So we decided to have a ceremony, a full scale ceremony yesterday at travis county correctional facility and we honored her yesterday at 4:30. We swore her in as honorary deputy sheriff. She's the youngest deputy sheriff in the history of travis county, at eight years old.
>> woo-hoo.
>> we had miller uniform, who made a uniform to fit her. She came in, i guess she didn't want to wear it today. She was beautiful. We had a beautiful ceremony. She even had an opportunity, the officers over at travis county sheriff's office pitched in and we were able to -- to bring her to travis county correctional facility in style in a limousine. And she was outfitted out and given several different prestigious momentos. As a matter of fact i'm the third vice-president of the f.b.i. Law enforcement executive development association. I was up there. The f.b.i. Sent her a challenge coin. So she -- we are proud to present to the commissioners court and to travis county honorary deputy sheriff madeline frady.
>> [ applause ] i'm glad that you all didn't keep on clapping because she's got to be at work in a few minutes
>> [laughter] i would like to -- to turn it over to sheryl brown, she has something to say, also.
>> okay. Thank you, court, for joining us, sheriff hamilton and the sheriff's department in honoring madeline. I just got a chance to meet the family briefly and they are just such a joining such an inspiration. Madeline is going to do well. We have to find her her first crook to arrest. It won't be hard to find
>> [laughter] but those of you, i wanted to make mention that any of you, madeline has a website, it's called madelines's gift. I want to give you the address to that website. If anyone within the television audience or travis county can hear this. Deleines, not apostrophe, just an s. Madeleinesgift.org. There's several interesting lovely pictures and some of madeline, talks about her journey. I want to encourage y'all that should you see fit, go to that and just there are different ways to help the family. Madeeine is going to doctor's appointment and everything. Mom needs to be home. I know what it means to be home without a paycheck. Been there, done that. It's not the easiest things. On behalf of something from myself and i'm sure the court is going to follow my lead as soon as we're off the tv, but i want to give a little something for madeleine's mother and for madeleine.

>> you read it, please.
>> it reads whereas one of the more pleasant duties of the travis county commissioners court is to recognize individual who's have distinguished themselves in various meritorious forms, including courage, bravery and determination. Whereas madeleine frady has always wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps, encouraged by splendid examples in her life, madeleine knew she wanted to be a part of the solution not the problem therefore chose law enforcement to be her career. Whereas recently madeleine was diagnosed with globlastoma a rare form of cancer, she has endured numerous hospital stays, medical appointments, remains steadfast in her desire to become a corrections officer. Whereas we are proud to announce on yesterday, august 30th, 2010, travis county sheriff greg hamilton bestowed the distinguished title of honorary travis county sheriff deputy upon eight-year-old ms. Madeleine frady with all of the associated rights, privileges and the responsibilities. Madeleine it doesn't mention compensation here. Sheriff.

>> my dad is going to be asking about the check.
>> [laughter]
>> whereas be assured that madeleine is not all work and no play. In her leisure time she enjoys drawing, playing with her dog, beemer, eating her favorite dish of spaghetti with big meat balls and trying to get her family to eat more healthy foods by insisting they try different vegetables. Which in itself is a true testament to madeleine's leadership skills.
>> i'm trying to get my dad to stop smoking.
>> oh!
>> we couldn't put everything in the proclamation.
>> [laughter]
>> whereas madeleine is the delightful daughter of adrienne frady, travis county's own correctional officer ii, heather marquez and stepfather retired sergeant joe stan, madeleine is a special joy and gift to her, to other family members including a step sister and stepbrother, maternal and paternal grand parents, a grade grandfather, aunts, uncle, numerous cousin his. Whereas it is appropriate that we take this time to applaud and salute travis county's newest and most prestigious member of the travis county sheriff's office and to express our sincere best wishes to this amazing young lady. Now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the travis county commissioners court do hereby proclaim august 29th through september 4th, 2010, as madeleine frady week in travis county and urge all residents to join us in extending sincere and heartfelt love and support to madeleine, parents and many loved ones, i move approval.
