Item no. 1 is to approve proclamation recognizing the week of july 18th through 24th between as probation, parole and community supervision week.

>> i'm roger jeffreys, executive manager of justice in public safety. Very honored today to be joined by marcus ramirez from the texas department of criminal justice, dr. Geraldine nagy from travis county probation department and estella med medina from the travis county juvenile probation department. We are asking you to recognize and read the proclamation about the -- ah -- recognizing the week of july 18th through 24, 2010, probation, parole and community supervision week. Recognizing the great work all of these folks to do to keep our community safe.

>> sure.

>> it reads: whereas communication corrections is an essential part of the criminal justice system; whereas community corrections professionals uphold the law with dignity while recognizing the right of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity; whereas community corrections professionals are responsible for supervising adult and juvenile offenders in the community; whereas community corrections professionals are trained professionals who provide services and referrals for offenders, whereas community corrections professionals work in partnership with community agencies and groups, whereas community corrections professionals promote prevention, intervention and adequacy, whereas community corrections professionals provide services, support, and protection for victims; whereas community corrections professionals advocate community and restorative justice, and whereas community corrections professionals are a true force for positive change in their communities, now there ever be it resolved -- now therefore be it resolved that the travis county commissioners court does hereby proclaim july 8th through 24th, 2010, as probation, parole and community supervision week and encourage all travis county citizens to honor these community corrections professionals and to recognize their outstanding achievements and i move approval.

>> certainly. Good morning, judge, commissioners, estella medina with the travis county juvenile probation department. It certainly is our privilege this morning, i want to thank the court. We certainly want to thank roger jeffreys and his staff for their work in presenting the resolution this week. We're joined this morning by many members of our teams from our agencies. Here in the audience as well. Who represent as well many more members of the team who day in and out do their work in service to our community. I can tell you that it is certainly a real privilege and certainly our honor to serve this community as a public service -- as public service officials. I want to also thank again the courts, commissioners court and the many agencies and the many partners in the community that support the work that we do. Thank you.

>> good morning. I also would like to thank judge biscoe and the court for the -- for this resolution and also roger and your staff and kimberly

>> [indiscernible] who i think came one this idea to do this today. And most of all, i want to thank all of our staff and we, too, have some -- some numerous folks out in the audience that came here this morning. They do a fabulous job. I think this morning is a great opportunity to acknowledge all that they do, each and every day, i'm just very proud of the work that they do and very proud of -- of their accomplishments and what they contribute to this community and i hope they have that same feeling as they are either here this morning or watch us on the internet. So thanks again and thank you all for all you do.

>> thank you. You know, i think it would be -- appropriate for those in the audience that are affiliatated with what's going on here to please stand. I think -- that recognition awghtd to be given -- ought to be given. Let the camera --

>> [ applause ] now the -- now the viewing public can see exactly what we're talking about here. These are all of the folks that supported this thing. I think that's very appropriate. For the viewing public. Thank y'all.

>> thank you to all of you and also thank you to those who perhaps couldn't be here today. But equally contributed to this good work.

>> i would like to thank the chief and dr. Nagy, especially mr. Jeffreys and ms. Pierce for putting this together. I think that it's very important to recognize those officer that's we have out in the field -- officers that we have out in the field working with the community and trying to keep travis county safe. I really appreciate that. I know my staff appreciates that, too. Thank you very much.

>> it is tough.

>> we appreciate you and all that you do.

>> yep, for sure. Thank y'all.
