Number 2 is receive comments on proposed elected officials' salaries for fiscal year 2011.

>> good morning, judge, commissioners.

>> good morning.

>> on june 15th, the commissioners court approved setting the salaries for the elected officials for fiscal year 2011. The notice -- the ad was published on july 2nd in the austin chronicle and the public hearing, of course, is scheduled for today. This will trigger the statutory requirements for the grieving process for elected officials should they choose to do so. The amount of the proposed increase is 2.5% for all non-- excuse me, for officials not on the judicial pay scale. In your packet, there is a backup calendar, and, of course, today being the public hearing setting the salaries will begin that grieving process with the final adoption, of course, to take place on september 28th. Of this year. We'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

>> and why didn't we set the salaries of the judicial officials at a 2.5% increase?

>> the judicial officials are tied to the state salaries, and the court has chosen to include the j.p.s on that scale as well. And there was no changes at the state level.

>> we provide for elected officials the same 2.5% that we will provide for rank and file employees.

>> that's correct.

>> okay. If you would like to give comments during this public hearing on item number 2, please come forward.

>>

>> [inaudible].

>> yes.

>> is this with regard to the plain english of this, this is setting the -- this is setting the maximum that an elected official not on the judge's pay scale can receive. Correct? So this is just so if one of those individuals wants to -- feels agreed by that salary, they can come and protest it. But this is just a maximum and these are elected officials and they can take up to that amount or any amount less, correct?

>> that's correct. The ad that was in the chronicle also included those elected officials on the judicial salary, the commissioners court chose to advertise that, and there was some footnotes concerning some elected officials that may choose not to take the full amount.

>> thank you.

>> and this is action item number 7 today, judge.

>> i move the public hearing be closed.

>> second.

>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
