Travis County Commissioners Court
April 27, 2010,
Item 21
And chal shal we move directly to item number 21?
>> yes.
>> consider and take appropriate action regarding family drug treatment court services. A, memoranda of understanding with the following agencies, austin recovery, austin travis county integral care, court appointed special advocates, texas department of family and protective services, and foundation communities. As well as b, new application to the u.s. Department of justice, office of juvenile justice and delinquency presentation to enhance the austin travis county drug court by providing clinical assessments and services to the children of drug court participants. Grant will be emergencied by the health and human services department and will require a cash match in year three of the grant that will be requested as part of the fiscal year 2013 budget process.
>> commissioners, item a and b is for a new grant that health and human services is requesting. I have sherri fleming, the executive director of health and human services and jim layer men with health and human services and we're happy to answer any questions anyone might have.
>> mr. Reeferseed i believe had a question on this program.
>> well, i do. One, i'm really in favor of a lot of this, and i wanted to point out that again, like this new law in california is getting zero coverage, it's going to really change things kind of like dr. Ran paul, who is going to win in kentucky. But anyway, about this list of things, the court-appointed special advocate, casa, has i think foolishly thrown me away as a volunteer. I'm a natural for them. And i think it's because i choose to pronounce my name reeferseed. So once we cross this barrier hopefully people like me and others can channel our efforts more fully into these great organizations and great efforts. And again, about this new law about to happen in california.
>> that's not jermaine to the item on table, but do you have anything else that's related to the grant before us?
>> yes. The texas department of family and protective services, there will be a whole lot less cost for them pause they've spent money now to break up families. If somebody happens to settle smoked pot. And so that's there's another cost savings. But other than that i'm in favor of good happy things.
>> i move approval of item 21.
>> second.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> may i clarify that we approved a and b?
>> that motion covered both of them.
>> is that agreed by the second?
>> yes, indeed.
>> thank you.
