Travis County Commissioners Court

April 13, 2010,
Item 14

View captioned video.

Number 14 is to approve contract awards for solid waste services, debris removal, ifb number b 1122-ld to lowest bidders. A, texas disposal systems, and b, allied ways/b.f.i. Waste systems, sunset farms landfill.

>> i would like to separate the vote.

>> move approval of 14-a, texas disposal systems.

>> second.

>> discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. And move approval of b, allied waste/b.f.i. Waste systems, sunset farms landfill. One is on the north, one is on the staff and wherever the pickup is, staff will take the debris to the closest -- closer landfill.

>> and i understand that, judge, it's just that, you know, it does make sense, though, but my problem is still with b.f.i. And all the expansion for the neighborhoods and the schools in the old setting there of 290 east is gist hard and i have opposed all of that for quite some time and there's no way i could support b.f.i. Receiving business in travis county with that particular encroachment and the hours of operation that they have expanded out there also. Just no way in the world i could support this at this time. Just no way.

>> and i second your motion, judge.

>> thank you. We do have an agreement with b.f.i.

>> i know.

>> which ended up being a whole lot better than our fight with waste management, which they won. But on b.f.i. As long as they keep the deal, in my view they have been operating in as much good faith as anyone. But i understand your position.

>> yes, i -- yeah, i just can't support it.

>> any more discussion of the motion? All in favor? Show commissioner eckhardt, hueber, gomez and yours truly voting in favor.

>> commissioner davis voting no.

>> commissioner davis voting no. That passes by a vote of 4-1. On number 18, the county attorney has promised backup on this. We did get yesterday, i think, a memo from t.n.r. I think we need to see something from the county attorney on it actually. And we've asked for it several weeks. So in my view, we need another week on this. We got t.n.r.'s memo yesterday, right? And my note from john hilly was that somebody in the county attorney's office is working on it and i think that we ought to be ready to act next week assuming the backup is sufficient. Any problem with that?

>> so one more week?

>> 18 we'll have back on next week. That is april 20th.
