Travis County Commissioners Court
March 30, 2010,
Item 22
22, consider and take appropriate action on Texas department of transportation solicitation for comments on outdoor advertising rules.
>> yes, sir.
thank you, judge and Commissioner.
we became aware of a tex dot notification, a notice of an opportunity to comment on their outdoor advertising rules.
these were billboards.
and both the policies and their procedures for approving the installation and allowing them to be placed next to state highway.
we worked with Commissioner Huber's office to develop some comments that we would like the court to consider.
we put them into a resolution format.
so there's a resolution included in your backup and an attachment a to that resolution which identifies all the issues that we would like considered as tex dot does evaluate changes to their rules.
>> actually, my office worked with scenic tex .
as you know we worked in last legislative success session to get more billboard control.
actually, we have had a lot of problems in the past, in fact a number that we get problems with call-ins about issues in Travis County.
for example, I know of three signs on highway 71 west that were given permits by tex dot and are now in place that were in violation of deed restrictions of the properties that they went on.
this is one of our recommendations, that they not permit signs where deed restrictions.
it's like a hit list of items like that that we have encountered.
(one motion please for change in captioners).
.
>> that's good progress.
>> it is progress.
and I would ask that these comments are due to txdot tomorrow by 4:00.
>> in that case, all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you.
thanks for the timely submittal.
