i moving approval.

>> second.

>> thank you.

>> good morning.

>> good morning.
kelly page, Travis County sheriffs office, community outreach unit.
i wanted to take a moment to let the citizens and the court know that on Thursday the wounded warriors project soldier ride will be in Austin.
this is one of four stops that they are in Texas.
we will be launching the ride from the capital at 9:30.
there's a small ceremony.
our biggest hope is that the citizens come out and support the riders as they embark on a 22 mile ride throughout Travis County.
we have the ruteroute on the sheriffs office web page at www.tc sheriff.org.
it's great project, our second year to be working with them.
we consider it an honor with our agency and travis countiment to --county.
to my right is staff sergeant rodriguez.
he is going to share with you a little bit about the project.

>> good morning.

>> good morning.

>> good morning.
i was injured back in '05 and I'm a resident of Texas.
i started riding with the ww project back in 2007.
from a person thing with the wounded warrior project, I found that it's been greatest thing that I ever d I never cycleled before.
i got injured and now I'm active all the time riding my bike.
i have, because of cycling and the wounded warrior project, I was able to heal a lot faster.
i didn't think I was going to be ail to walk again, use my arm like I do.
it's all because of cycling.
when I found out the wounded warrior project did these rides all over the u.s, I had to jump on board.
and now I ride with them all the time.
they help soldiers, I have seen triple amputees on a hand cycle riding 25 miles a day.
it's an amazing thing.
they do job fairs and help job placements, do counseling.
the project is one of the greatest things I have ever come across.
and I thangthank you for allowing us to come back to your city and ride again here.

>> thank you so much.

>> thank you.

>> can you tell us how other individuals who are interested in this can get involved in the wounded warrior project, and also who did that wonderful artwork.

>> nicole giran, a community liaison out of the community outreach unit did.

>> that is great.
reel rale beautiful.

>> looking at the pamphlet in the backup, it would be great to get the word out to other folks.
i know cycling is a gateway to get into other physical en--ever defers.
i understand some of our special oh --olympians began with cycling.

>> yes, there's a great website.
there's newsletters, everything happening in the project all over the u.s.
soldier ride has a link for you find out history about them, where the next events are.
they are scheduled all the way out to 2011 already.

>> we also have veterans services tied and linked into that.
i'm wondering if they have a link.
i'm questioning.
i guess I'll get it from sherry flemming late er to see if they have link.
i think it's very important.
sergeant, let me say this.
we thank you for your service.

>> thank you.

>> so many things that you do and things that you have the done in the past and what you are done now exemplifies the great tradition involved in this.
it would be really, I think if the sheriff department can get in touch with hss, or if sherry flemming is listening right now, to see if our ret advance services have touted this, dealing with ally polk and those folks with veterans services in Travis County.
if it is not there, I think it would be good if they do participate in such a great program.
thank you, sergeant.

>> Commissioner Davis, I have had a recent meeting with mr.
polk.

>> oh, you have.

>> yes, sir.

>> okay.

>> we are ensuring that Travis County residents are aware of the services that are also available through the wounded warrior project.
quickly, I can give that web page address.

>> all right.

>> for the wounded warrior project.
it's www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

>> if folks wants to participate in the ride on Thursday, do they just show up at the capital at 9:30?

>> mellow johnny is the caw sponsor and they would contact mellow johnny's.
we have a mer mitt through the city of Austin that we can accommodate 125 riders.
we have approximately 40 wounded warriors that will be participating.
so we have space for the public to participate.
but I would contact mellow johnny.

>> that is great.

>> do you have that contact information.

>> their link is on our web page at mellow johnny.

>> okay.

>> for our cosponsors.

>> thank you very much, sergean.

>> thank you.

>> all in favor.
that passes by unanimous vote.
