February 2, 2010,
Item 23

View captioned video.

>> item number 23, consider and take appropriate action on request from the downtown alliance for county participation in study of the feasibility of a downtown Austin transportation management association.

>> judge, I asked -- I had a long, long, long talk with thomas butler, and of course that conversation went very, very well in some of the questions that I asked him on this item.
and -- how you doing?
are you doing all right?

>> yes, sir.

>> good.
and mr.
butler has been out to san francisco, I believe.

>>

>> [inaudible - no mic].

>> gid go ahead.

>> I'm here to answer any questions you have.
i just passed out a one-page document that kind of reminds you of the details of the downtown Austin alliance's request, as well as another brief explanation of what a transportation management association undertakes to do and how it might do that.

>> and also I put down -- put together a brief memo with a couple of handouts just as a refresher from our previous conversation.
regarding the capacities of the downtown transportation infrastructure, which is to say there is no more capacity of the downtown transportation infrastructure.
our own expectation of the 22% increase in numbers of county employees over the next five years in a central business district as well as the tie-in of this effort by the daa with our efforts with broaddus in phase 2 of our central business district campus planning.

>> and one point I would make after my conversation with Commissioner Davis, we're aware of the county's efforts with the shuttle system as well as with carts.
and I want to make it clear that the transportation management association doesn't provide services typically.
and we don't foresee that.
what the common function is is to coordinate with services that exist such as the shuttle system and car to go and employers and putting employers in touch and making sure that they're using effectively those services that exist.
there's big education component to that.
helping employers kind of craft those in a way that specifically works for them and working with the transit agencies to recognize specific and unique needs and match them and take care of those needs.

>> I would move approval of the $6,000 to the daa feasibility study for transportation management association.

>> what would be the source of funding?

>> actually, I had spoken with rodney rodes about this and I am drawing a blank.
i did speak with him about it.

>> allocated reserve.
i don't know of anything else, but there's money there.
we ought to say a source of funding.

>> yes, sir.

>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
thank you.
good luck to you.
