Now citizen's communication is next, this item gives residents the opportunity to address the court on any matter, not on the agenda.
, the following citizens have signed in, marcello ataia, paul avena, susan brown is the one that just spoke on other public hearing, as well as diane dee, and gerdino, fernandez, so these two residents, (calling names] good morning.

>> good morning, I am marcello tafoya, I am represented at Travis County southwest voter registration project here in Travis County and we will be doing Williamson county at the same time.
I have come here to inform the court, our project is to register as many voters as we can in Travis County and primarily the newcomers, the new individuals that have come into our county, at the same time, those that have moved residency, have to once again sign up to be able to vote so we just want the court to know we are out there visiting high schools, colleges, visiting other venues or individuals or being able to sign up -- who are able to sign up, so we wanted to let you know and -- and have your support in our actions.

>> thank you.

>> good morning.

>> Commissioners, my name is

>> [indiscernible] fernandez, deputy director of lulac district twelve and we have partnered with southwest voters registration education project, which is a nationally known organization that focuses on empowering latinos in the communities by registering them to vote.
it is not only a voter registration drive but it is also one of education, one that allows people in our community to recognize the power that they have with their voter -- with their voting power.
southwest voters registration is a nonpartisan effort, so we welcome and work with all political parties in Travis County, the democrats, republicans, libertarians, independents, and like my fellow mentioned, we are looking at registering over 600 new registered voters before the February 1st deadline.
in order for them to be able to exercise their vote in the March primaries.
many of you have a large population of latinos in your precincts and we would like -- like my fellow mentioned, for you to echo and amplify this effort that we have and you will be seeing latino organizations and individuals out in the field and you will see them -- you will see uses carrying this so if you see, that is the -- the reasons why we are carrying this and we are wanting to make sure that we can get as many voters registeredch we want to thank all of those that show up everred up out our meeting last night and Commissioner Gomez that takes our challenge and continue to go out in the field.
this is a grassroots effort and I think our community will be better off as a community if it allows us to improve the quality of life for ourself and it allows uses to choose our own destiny.
and we just need to make sure that our people, like I said, you know, it's an education project.
we are strongly focusing on the youth because they are the ones that will be leading this once we rest in peace.
thank you very much.

>> thank you.

>> one thing I would like to add, we do not discriminate.
if we are getting registered to vote, whoever wants to register is welcome to register, also, doesn't necessarily have to be latino, african-american or any, whoever wants to register, they are welcome to be part of this educational system.
thanks again and appreciate your help.

>> also, may I ask and I know that this fits within y'all's mission and to the extent it is appropriate during your voter registration drive, if you would also encourage people on the census to fill out the census paperwork, that also is a way to increase one's voice.

>> yes, especially, once you brought that up, with had a bullet from one of our is that rights saying that people are going around representing the census bureau, trying to gather information from individuals and we are asking the people not to permit them to go into their house and the only information they should receive is their address and their name and -- until they receive a document through the mail and then send it back in, and if they don't respond within the third time, then somebody will actually go -- they will have to identify themselves before they do that, so we are also trying to inform the community to be aware of shysters that are going around and trying to get information from you, like the social security number and other information they can use and we are also trying to tell them at the same time to be aware of that but we will be working really hard on the census because we know the value of the census to the community, not only federal money, state money, but other money that can go into our county is concerned.
so that is it as far as lulac is concerned.

>> thanks for being a credible clearinghouse for that information, thank you Commissioner.

>> second.

>> is paul adena here.

>> yes.

>> okay.
