Travis County Commissioners Court

December 1, 2009,
Item 23

View captioned video.

23 is consider and take appropriate action on the following requests for regarding the administrative operations functional areas: a, transfer of employee slot number 74 to the facilities management department, b, transfer of employee slot number 75, and c, appoint joe harlow as a nonvoting member of the compensation ce.
i think it's fair to say these follow the fact that the executive manager of operations position is still open and based on how we are proceeding it will probably be open several additional months.
and so for these two employees, joe and roger have assured us that they have more than enough work for any of these individuals to do, and this basically is to have them report to these two different managers until we get a new executive manager on board.
they have been doing a variety of duties for us.
this would give more specificity, sort of line of supervision also.
and on the compensation committee appointment for joe harlow, he's attended one or more meetings.
typically the executive manager would look over the administrative operations in the compensation committee.
so that being the case, we may as well let him be there to speak for himself until things have settled.

>> and they make a lot of sense to me.
the only thing was are the employees going to have to move out of space they are in right now?

>> I'm sorry?

>> are these employees going to have to move to another space?

>> why don't you come up here.

>> the only reason I raised the question, I think out of habit a lot of folks will come to that office space and ask questions and then they will be lost.
and it would be preferable to me if someone was there for continuity sake so that people are not lost.
somehow they didn't ever make it down to the office of a Commissioner so we can redirect them to the right place.
and so just for continuity sake.

>> I think -- I think for barbara we prefer for her to be with us at

>> [indiscernible].

>> such as across the street.

>> yes.
and sometimes we'll work with her for the copy machine and all that stuff, ordering some of the materials.
but we'll work with her on that.
but we prefer for her to be down at the facility management.

>> okay.

>> rosanna can stay right where she's at.

>> I really believe it will add to the continuity, and you are right around the corner from there.
so good, okay, I think that would work out really well.

>> thanks.

>> and so I don't have a problem with any of them, judge.
move approval.

>> on the compensation thing, i.t.s.
employees have been sort of a delicate category for us historically.
so during those compensation committee meetings, joe may as well be will to give the i.t.s.
perspective, I say.

>> I and I think we brought to career ladder approach to the court and it was referred to the committee.
expected to be there -- cover that topic.

>> motion to approve and a second.
discussion.
all in favor?
show Commissioners erk heart, Huber, yours truly and Gomez voting in fair.

>> abstaining.
