3.
introduction of beth devery, chester beaver and kay brock to Commissioners court by the county attorney's office.
,.

>> good morning, judge, Commissioners.

>> good morning.

>> it is always with a sense of honor and pride that I have the opportunity to introduce new members of our staff to you.
this morning, I have that in triplets because I get to introduce three new lawyers who are working for us this morning.
the first is beth devery.
beth is -- as I'm sure all of you know, comes to us from medical examiner's office, we lured her away from there and we lured her away for good reason.
i have known beth for a number of years, but until she applied for our job, I had no idea of the extensive background she had in health care law and in health care in fact.
she worked as the general counsel for the Texas association of community health centers.
she worked as the general counsel for amil international insurance company.
she also worked as a staff attorney for the Texas department of insurance.
but perhaps, even more importantly than that, she worked as a nurse for a number of years in wichita, I'm sorry, in wichita falls, as a staff nurse, as a clinical coordinator and as a nursing instructor.
so she comes to us replacing someone who I -- who I actually thought probably couldn't be replaced, who is stacy wilson.
stacy, as you know, went to work as an employee for the health care district and now beth comes as our division director for our health care division.
i'm proud to introduce her to the court this morning.
the second lawyer that I want to introduce is someone that I have known for many years and an old friend of mine, chester beaver.
chester has worked in the city attorney's office and in the attorney general's office in the bankruptcy section of the tax division.
he's also worked for a couple of different fairly prominent law firms during his career.
prior to that, he was a real estate broker and a real estate appraiser and keeping with our medical theme, prior to that he was a medic in the united states army.
that has actually very little to do with the job that we've hired him for, which is to work with

>> [indiscernible] nelson on our state court litigation team defending you guys and the rest of the county when those errants choose to sue us for whatever reason.
and chester retired from the city attorney's office and apparently decided retirement was not quite suitable to him and wanted to come to work for us and we are proud to have him, with him and tony, we now have two very experienced litigators doing our state court defense litigation.
and, finally, in our tax division, I want to introduce kay brock.
kay came to us from the Texas attorney general's office, where she worked in bankruptcy and collections division and prior to that she worked in the claims division at the city of Austin law department.
so that -- that doesn't go with the medical theme, but it does kind of go with our theme of raiding our departments, including the city attorney's office.
and kay has come to work in our tax collection division, making the money for the county that pays all of the rest of our salaries, we are proud to have her.
so thank you very much for the opportunity to introduce these folks.
i'm proud to be working with them and I'm confident that they are going to do an excellent job representing.

>> welcome.

>> any comments?

>> welcome.

>> oh, thank goodness.

>> [laughter]

>> lawyers who pass up an opportunity to speak, jim, it must be a new day at Travis County.

>> it is.

>> [laughter]

>> it is a new day, actually, every day.

>> it's a pleasure to be here working for you, thank you.

>> thank you.

>> we'll -- you'll get your check on time.

>> [laughter] number
