Travis County Commissioners Court
October 27, 2009,
Item 8
8.
consider and take appropriate action on applications for membership on the board of directors of the central Texas regional mobility authority.
>> my assistant, ms.
valesqez sent an e-mail at my direction, that e-mail says we have two applications so far.
it may make sense for us to extend the deadline another 30 days.
mr.
geeseman and his staff agree, right?
let's do what we can to generate a few more applications and then schedule them for appointments.
at this time I think we should issue the notice that at the end of this period, if we have two, then we simply interview them.
so whatever number we have, that are still interested, we interview them and make a selection.
this pushes our selection to roughly mid to late November.
so if we could get that person on board the first part of next year, if not December, then I think that will be good.
>> would it be -- would the court be interested in entertaining pushing it out only two weeks, because it has been open for quite some time, and give it a final two weeks of -- of recruitment and attention?
>> well, the problem with that is I think if we simply give notice, nothing happens.
if we don't try to make some phone calls and really chat with people, maybe try to stimulate some interest.
so I have got in mind sort of actively recruiting to get two or three more who are interested and with one member of the court, it would just be one week.
the other one, it would be no time.
in this, since I made the recommendation is my commitment to try to help generate two or three interested persons.
that's why I would say a month.
>> how long has --
>> what I have in mind is something more than a formal extension, I have in mind a work period.
>> it has been open for three months?
>> well, time will help.
work -- work has.
and I don't know -- to do it right, really does require an investment of time that, in addition to what we have done already.
i will not be able to do it in two weeks, I doubt.
>> it is a very important appointment.
>> it is, it is very important appointment.
the ctrma is hoping to generate more business, the ctrma is essentially the regional entity taking over most of the txdot projects in the region.
it is step going the shoes of txdot so if you have an interest in transportation planning and an interest particularly in how transportation -- major transportation infrastructure is funded, this is the organization, ctrma had the statutory authority to build everything from a bike trail to an airport.
>> is that an argument for two weeks or four?
if it is four, I agree.
>>
>> [laughter]
>> now, two over applied seem to be outstanding individuals.
>> outstanding individuals.
>> it's just typically on something like this, we would want to consider more than that, if possible.
so my motion is to approve it to extend it for four weeks.
>> second.
>> discussion?
and in that basically if it passes to encourage court members and including two who are not here today to help us generate additional applications.
all in favor of the motion?
this passes by unanimous vote.
can we notify the two who have apply what happened we have done today.
i did look at their resumes and they are outstanding candidates but if we could get two or three others, I would appreciate that.
the other thing is we have -- we have one or two other opportunities to serve, so while we are out there trying to generate additional applications for this one, we may as well mention the other couple.
okay.
joe, what were you asking for?
>>
>> [indiscernible] a parties that waiting whether that will remain on the agenda or not, maybe they will like to address the court.
>> we will take 25 and go back up and call cdbg.
