>> 29, receive update and take appropriate action on Travis County participation in the census 2010 complete count committee with the city of Austin, including consideration and adoption of Travis County nominees to the 2010 census Austin-Travis County steering committee and the 2010 census Austin-Travis County leadership council.

>> judge Biscoe, members of the court, pete eckstein, intergovernmental coordinator for the county.
since June the county has been working to establish a complete count committee.
we have made the decision to do that in conjunction with the city of Austin and to create two committees, a steering committee and a leadership council, who would take the lead on trying to educate people in the community about the census and to encourage as much participation as possible.
the members of the court have been very helpful and gracious in suggesting names of community leaders who have extensive networks in the communities.
we have gone around to all the Commissioners' offices with maps showing where the likely areas are where there is likely to be an undercount and have asked for suggestions of community leaders in those areas who we could nominate to these committees.
last Friday we distributed to members of the court a proposed set of appointments to the leadership council and to the steering committee.
we gave out an update yesterday afternoon, which I hope the members of the court have, and what I would recommend is that the court approve the appointment of those members.

>> questions, comments?

>>

>> [indiscernible], judge, as far as the list and I have no problem with it.

>> then I second your motion.

>> thank you.
move approval.

>> seconded by Commissioner Eckhardt.
any more discussion?
we've been coordinating our selections with the city of Austin.

>> with the city, that's correct.
and there is a list of -- at the top of the list of nominees that you have are lists of co-chairs for the event or for the committees.
alex ruilas from an organization called latin works, bruce efphant and judge shepherd, county court at law number 2.
both the city and county would want to make those jointly so I would ask to you approve them as the co-chairs jointly selected by the county and the city of Austin.

>> move approval.

>> second.

>> do we vote on the other one?
is it friendly to add the co-chairs, mr.
davis?

>> yes.

>> to the original -- add these three to the original motion.
is that okay with you she Commissioner Eckhardt?

>> yes, sir.

>> anything else?

>> no, sir.

>> any more discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
we are anticipating that the city of Austin will approve the list that we just approved.
they have not done so yet.

>> they are going to -- I think this is being handled as an initiative out of the mayor's office and they will -- I think the mayor will announce the city's appointees very soon.

>> any changes should be brought back to the court.

>> yes, sir.

>> if they approve everything we just approved, I guess we're ready to go.
thank you on that.
