Now 5 is to approve resolution honoring mona gonzalez for her 25 years of service to the river city youth foundation.

>> whereas mona gonzalez grew up straddling the Texas-mexican border near brownsville and spent her time as a young child in a mexican village that her a but leto grandfather helped found and whereas mona learned about community values in this village environment, where community events were designed to bring families together.
and whereas mona as a child went door to door raising money for the March of dimes which gave her the desire to help those most in need in the community, the children.
and whereas mona founded the river city youth foundation 25 years ago to help the children in one of Austin's poorest neighborhoods.
whereas mona created a gathering spot dubbed the success center, where about 60 children, each day, seven days a week wandered to after school for warm meals, about 5,000 meals a day.
a year.
computers for homework.
a smattering of books to read and even take career and life skills training.
now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby thank mona gonzalez for her service and dedication to the youth of southeast Travis County and I would move approval.

>> second.

>> I also want to adhere that one of my -- add here that one of my early memories of mona, probably 25, 26 years ago, because it was before the foundation of river city youth foundation, was her incredible tenacity to run -- to move around barriers and there were a lot of barriers.
when you are trying to do something, sometimes in the community, good, for some odd reasons there are a lot of barriers put up.
she never gave up.
she would run into a wall and instead of just standing there spinning wheels, she would turn around and try to go around that barrier.
and I'll never forget that.
i think it's that tenacity that you put to work in favor of children and I'm so proud to have known you all these years and so -- so that's what I have to add.
thank you.

>> any other comments?
we appreciate you and all that you do.
keep up the good work.

>> [ applause ] all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
