Travis County Commissioners Court
September 15, 2009,
Item 26
>> let's take item 26 and then we'll call up the tax abatement item.
26 is to approve the contract award for hunters bend sidewalk improvements project, ifb number b 090302-jw, to the low bidder the barr company.
>> good morning.
this contract award is approximately 2800 square feet of sidewalk to be constructed on the west side of hunters bend on fm 969 to west wall.
also includes pedestrian crossings, a signal with fm 969 and drainage improvements.
the contract award is recommended to the barr company in the amount of $181,676.98.
>> mr.
davis.
>> yes, judge.
really I'd like to thank -- this has been another we just talked about safety issues just then as far as some of the departments dealing with making
>> [indiscernible] but this is another safety issue because here in this particular subdivision, Austin colony, the person brought it to our attention that the children would have to walk in the street to go from down the subdivision because of wasn't adequate sidewalk.
so as a result of that we had bond money left over from 1984 and we tried our best to apply some of this to -- to see that we could provide these sidewalks for safety reasons for persons that needed to go back and forth to school, back into the subdivision on the west side of hunters bend.
so it's a real big positive plug to address a long-outstanding concern in the community of Austin colony.
and I guess as far as the beginning and start time, how -- what are we talking about?
we know the lineal foot and that's been discussed, but what are we talking about beginning notice to proceed and all this other kind of -- can somebody give me some information on that?
>> good morning, judge and Commissioners.
it's 2800 -- it's linear feet.
>> did I say square foot?
>> we're allowing 140 working days which translates to about seven months of work.
i think it can probably be done quicker than that, but we think that's a reasonable amount of time for the work considering it's going to be close to traffic and it's pretty heavily traveled road.
>> right.
>> that's about how long it should take.
>> once the court approves the court or should the court approve the contract, the contractor has 10 days to provide us with their bonds and insurance, and once those are reviewed and verified, we will issue notice to proceed.
>> I move approval.
thank y'all.
>> all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
thank you very much.
