Travis County Commissioners Court
September 8, 2009,
Item 13
13.
consider and take appropriate action on the following: a, tax office renovation project and schematic design at 5501 airport boulevard; and b, reallocation of funds from savings on other facilities management department projects to fund this project.
>> good morning.
>> good morning, roger el khoury, director of the facilities management department.
for a couple of months we have been working with the tax office for work on the solution to the -- to the spaces at the 5501 and finally we come one a solution that's accepted by the department and she's -- in your backup we have a -- a plan that shows the signature of
>> [indiscernible] and the division manager.
for the space solution I will turn it over to
>> [indiscernible]
>> jim barr with facilities management department.
we met with the tax office division managers and -- and staff.
and came up with a way to reorganize their office within the existing envelope that they have to make it more efficient, to create room where they needed the room.
and the only part of increasing the square footage was to add a -- a 600 square foot storage building out of underneath the drive through where the -- where the -- there's basically just empty space there.
there's kind of a turn around.
as you go through the drive through there's a turn-around for the cars to leave, but there's a large portion of that area under the existing canopy that could be built out.
we can move the various parts of storage they have scattered around their suite, consolidate that into this building, we're going to eliminate the two restrooms that were the original builders square staff restrooms that are -- have not been in use because they have been out of compliance and the money would cost to upgrade them to a useful restroom just hasn't been feasible.
hadn't been worth it.
so by doing these internal arrangements we have reorganized staff so that they can help each other do their jobs, support each other for like activities.
year adding two office spaces for managers.
to get them out of cubicles so they can have the privacy to act as managers.
and we are increasing the size of the break room, which will better accommodate the number of staff they have on site.
>> talk to me a bit more about funding.
>> we have been -- we have some saving from the cjc gold project, very extensive project, still have more than $300,000 saving, we did finish this project.
when we talked to the p.b.o.
and the p.b.o.
talked to the county attorney to see if that fund can be transferred to fund this project.
because it is a
>> [indiscernible] application fund.
we think that we got -- from p.b.o.
that it is legal to transfer the fund from cjc saving project to the tax office.
and the cost of this project and the tax office is going to be like $287,000 and plus -- plus furniture is going to be 25,000 that the tax office are going to fund it internally from their budget.
>> [one moment please for change in captioners] .
>> we can't make it earlier, but this is really the time frame to make it efficient, you know, because as you know, December and January is tax season and then we don't want to disturb -- we're going to stop it and come back later to finish it up.
>> okay.
>> thank you.
>> I move approval of a and b.
>> second.
>> seconded by Commissioner Davis.
discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
