Travis County Commissioners Court
September 1, 2009,
Item 2
>> number 2.
consider and take appropriate action regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> good morning.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners.
>> tony calloway with the fire marshal's office.
we depend in an extreme drought index condition, depending on what you use, kbdi our average is 17 currently.
we did lose a structure a couple of weeks ago to a burn that was contained to a barrel for some time that then with flying embers didn't move to the structure itself, we have seen the structure.
we have seen the results of the condition that's we are currently in and the devastating effects of that.
the current -- the current order to prohibit outdoor burning is scheduled to expire on September 16.
it would be our office's recommendation to keep that in place.
>> real bad conditions out there for burning.
the situation in california I guess is a good reminder.
>> yes, sir.
>> so keep your cigarette butts in your car.
don't burn outdoors.
>> most definitely.
>> okay.
>> by taking no action, we leave the -- the outstanding order in place.
see you next week.
>> thank you.
>> thank you very much.
>> thank you.
