Travis County Commissioners Court
August 11, 2009,
Item 28
>> number 28 is to consider and take appropriate action on the Travis County central campus needs analysis and master plan visioning session held June 23, 2009, including follow-up comments from the Commissioners court work session on July 23rd, 2009.
and we will next call up the dr.
john sharp and the tacalote presentation.
>> good morning, Commissioners.
i'm belinda powell.
with me are rodney rhodes and leslie strickland, project manager with the project in terms of project management.
we're bringing forward this morning a report that was compiled from comments from the June 23rd visioning session that was held an internal county wide investigationing session.
and we also incorporated comments from a work session that was held with the Commissioners court to kind of continuing thoughts on visioning for the downtown central campus, a and that work session was held July 23rd, 2009.
so this report summarizes the activities of our sessions.
highlights, the guiding principles that we'll be testing this project against as we move through the process of developing scenarios for a downtown master plan.
and I can read through those if you would like or answer any questions.
>> any questions?
will you trust us to read this on our own?
>> absolutely.
>> if we have not done so already.
>> our intention is also to use this as part of the material we will post on a project web page that leslie is taking the lead on developing with i.t.s., and we hope to have a web page up by September.
>> judge, on the guiding principles, it seems like we had added one, didn't we?
and you may have made that recommendation, I just don't remember which one it was.
there is the page that has the numbers -- big numbers, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6?
>> the guiding principle recommendation went to affordability --
>> right.
>> and under identifying and meeting future space needs, the definition of that is outlined on page 12, and it talks -- it says to ensure 25 space needs will be met, address the highest and best use of the county's resources, real estate, building finances, phase the implementation to correspond with demand for space in a financially prudent and responsible manner, and to improve facilities to support enhanced productivity and delivery of county services.
so in meeting our needs we try to also capture the comments that were made about making sure that finance or financial feasibility was considered as one of those needs that needs to be met.
if that is appropriate.
>> that sounds fine to me.
>> I think that picks it up.
>> anything else?
the residents will have access to this on the county website.
>> yes, sir.
>> and those who want a hard copy can contact the planning and budget office.
>> yes, sir.
>> should we warn them that either they will need new glasses or laser surgery before -- this is rather small font.
>> we will make sure that when it's posted that that's adjusted so that it appears a little bit differently.
i can also reformat it to print in a larger format if someone requests a hard copy from our office.
>> is that what you had in mind?
>> I will do that for you.
>> would you prefer a hard copy or soft copy, judge in.
>> let's do both.
questions from the court?
comments?
>> good work.
>> thank you very much.
>> thank you.
>> what action do we need to take, any?
>> just approve for us to release it.
>> so moved.
>> second.
>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
>> thanks.
>> we have about 10 minutes.
we advised several people that we would call up your item at 11:00, dr.
sharp.
>> that would be fine.
>> I feel kind of duty bound to wait until then if we can.
see if we can find a 10-minute item here.
probably need to discuss number 26 with legal in executive session.
is deeks eckstein around?
>> he was earlier.
dietz is not available?
>>
>> [inaudible - no mic].
>> which one?
>> 31?
>> 31 was not considered part of the -- move approval.
>> second.
