>> yes.

>> good morning judge and Commissioner, alicia perez executive manager for administrative operations.
i'm here with ms.
margie albert who is with the Travis County historical commission.
and we are here to -- to announce the second annual Travis County history day.
our first one was last year and it was a very well attended it was successful function.
it was an opportunity for us to display the richness of Travis County history.
it's -- its lore, its legend, the truth and have us learn from that.
and pass it on to -- to the future residents and the current residents in Travis County history.
there's a lot of history buffs here in Travis County.
this year the events held on August the 7th.
it will start at 11:00 a.m.
it will be held at the Travis County courthouse, emann marian sweatt courthouse on the second floor.
we are very honored to have the former district attorney ronnie earle will be our honorary chairperson, here with us next week to read the proclamation you want to talk more about the program and other speakers, steven broberg director of management and communication resources.
with that, in that department, he is also charged with managing and maintaining the archives.
which are all of the history of Travis County going back to its founding in 1840.
before that 1838.
that there was some activity even before -- before the declaration.
so he is the keep of that history.

>> judge and Commissioners, steven broberg, in addition to the honorable ronnie earle acting as our chair for this program, the program includes a presentation by -- by dr.
archie mcdonald and dr.
mcdonald is -- is the author of the only book that has been written about william barrett travis.
there's some copies floating around here if anybody is learning more about his life.
and in addition to him, we have -- we have ms.
peggy rudd, she's the director of the Texas state library and archives commission and that includes the -- the state archives.
they have the original travis letter from the alamo.
and one of the -- one of the things that you will see, you will see a copy of that on display, as well as number of interesting artifacts from the time.
in addition tctv has produced some videos and in fact I'm looking at some of the participants for those videos right now.

>>

>> [indiscernible]

>> some of the stars of our video.
so we will be introducing those during the presentation itself and I should also make one other note.
there will be refreshments.
at this

>> [laughter]

>> yeah, we are very pleased to have this year again sponsorship by the Austin bar for refreshments and they will also do short presentation and we expect that again to -- to be a great celebration of our history.
margie, alfred, from the Travis County historical commission.

>> well, we produced another brochure this year that people can take any time that come into the courthouse.
it's just a -- it's very interesting just an ongoing way to -- to learn about our history and it's very interesting and we hope that you will all come as you did last year.

>> great.

>> last year the focus was the courthouses.
and early Travis County history.
and then this year we have decided to focus on our namesake, william barrett travis, very interesting, colorful character.
died at the alamo at age 26.
he was a lawyer.
not only did he --

>> that's not why he was killed, was it?

>> we wonder

>> [laughter] speculation on that.

>> [laughter] he came to us from south carolina and not only did he practice u.s.
law, but he also learned to speak spanish and practice mexican law.
and all this -- all this and then was commandant at the alamo because jim bowie got sick during that time.
very interesting, interesting story.
part of our history that we want to share with our community.
this is open to the public, how much county money was spent on it?

>> judge, very well.
in the $500 range in reproduction of materials.

>> printing brochure, basically.

>> we are also asking for authority to print this brochure.

>> mr.
reeferseed you have a question.

>> well, I just wanted to again praise my friends here that I'm also in favor of any contribute to Travis County.
i wanted to point out at the founding of the proud constitution of the republic of Texas, farming marijuana, hemp, was completely legal and many of our founding fathers here in Texas were hemp farmers.
ron paul would be very proud to know mr.
travis and I'm sure mr.
travis would be equally proud to know ob/gyn dr.
ron paul who delivered over 4,000 babies.

>> mr.
reeferseed, when you have your cereal and skim milk in the morning, do you put medicinal marijuana in there.

>> I'm shocked.

>> I never tried it.
you made me wonder about it, though.

>> great, recruiting all the time.

>> [laughter]

>> looks like a fine event to me.
we look forward to it.
move approval.

>> second.

>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
Commissioner Davis temporarily off the dais, including the printing of whatever we need to do to make this a successful event.
