Travis County Commissioners Court

July 21, 2009,
Item 2

View captioned video.

Number 2 is to consider and take appropriate action regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.

>> good morning, judge and Commissioners.

>> good morning.

>> the current burn ban is set to expire tomorrow, July 22nd.
conditions have not improved.
as a matter of fact, the drought index as of today was 669.
there has been some scattered rain showers and hopefully will be more this afternoon, but we do not expect enough precipitation in the foreseeable future that would alleviate the drought conditions and so our recommendation at this point is to institute a new order prohibiting outdoor burning.

>> questions, comments?
move approval of staff recommendation to --

>> second.

>> -- renew the burn ban, outdoor burn ban by executing another order which will be good for 30 days.
we'll leave this on the court's agenda weekly so if the situation changes dramatically we'll be able to take immediate action.

>> I wanted to add just very quickly that the governor has submitted a disaster declaration for a number of counties within Texas for the fire season because we are seeing such a great number of fires across the entire state of Texas.
so that has been submitted.
we have not heard the outcome of that.
we will let you know as soon as we do and what that will mean to any of the residents or any of the fire departments.

>> okay.

>> thank you all.

>> all in favor of the motion?
that passes by unanimous vote.
