>> good afternoon, good afternoon.
good afternoon.
let's call back to order the voting session of the Travis County Commissioners court.
we have a special item posted this afternoon at a special time.
that's item no.
2.
recognize Travis County employees who completed 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of outstanding service during calendar year 2008.
and we do expect Commissioner Davis to join us momentarily.
let me just begin by saying that we owe all of you a great many thanks, some of you are like me, I was headed from tyler to mexico and ran out of money here in Austin

>> [laughter] 19 years ago.
and I've been here since, and I've enjoyed most of those years.
any other comments from the court?

>> that does it

>> [laughter] any additional comments before we come down?

>> yes, judge.
always -- we are always very excited about bringing to you each year this employee recognition service and, of course, a couple of weeks ago you declared as a court employee recognition month, really, for Travis County.
the employees, of course, received that information and we had the two week period to get ready for today.
so you mentioned, judge, that we're recognizing the services of 103 employees today with 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.
but one of the things that's often not really highlighted at this level, but especially at the department level, we have employees who have been acknowledged for five, 10 and 15 years of service.
although we don't bring those employees to you, we certainly want to lift that not only on behalf of those employees, but also the departments who have recognized their services at the department level.
i always like to take the total number of those who have been recognized and kind of multiply it out and do the math thing and present that to you.
so today of the 103 employees, we have represented 2,240 years of service with Travis County collectively.
and it also represents an average of 22 years of service for each for the entire group that you will be presenting certificates to today.
so, again, on behalf of all of the Travis County employees, we always appreciate the support of the court and I will turn it over to chris nelson, who will guide us through the presentation of the certificates.

>> very good, good afternoon, Commissioners, judge.
just wanted to -- to start with the very top of the milestones and then we will work down.

>> we -- we have our final court member, so we have a full complement.
can I just make one or comment that one of the employees' great friends and supporters suggested that we have light refreshments this afternoon.
ms.
Moore-smith homemade cookies and punch.
and I would have suggested or your friend would have suggested heavy refreshments, but he knew that you would want to get back to work after the ceremony.

>> [laughter] so with that, let's go down front and get ready.

>> all right.
