>> item -- thank you.
24.
golly.
item 24.
24.
consider and take appropriate action for assignment to the district clerk's office of space to be used for secure storage in the 5501 airport boulevard building.
my understanding is that this is temporary until -- until a more permanent -- until more permanent space can be found.

>> that's correct.

>> okay.
and this is something that is required of the district clerk to do to keep these items in a safe place.

>> that's correct.
currently they have 130 square feet, but if it's not enough, they need additional space and could not find any space here in the downtown area and secure it on heman sweatt or cjc.
so we have a space in airport boulevard next to the

>> [indiscernible] management and therefore 500, for 335 square feet.
it fits very well.

>> she is required to keep these items safe and secure.

>> correct.

>> correct.

>> to believe reason we didn't put it on consent was that the judge, judge Biscoe wanted me to be sure and say that he does not like unfunded mandates.
so that's what he considered this to be.
he knows the fact.
but he wanted to be sure that I said that.
so I move approval.

>> I have a question with regard to it.
has -- has this backup been shared with both the airport boulevard central planning as well as the -- the downtown central business district planning efforts?
because of course this will come into play, we have to have storage space for these -- for this evidentiary material for

>> [indiscernible] so this is -- this is a requirement that we definitely want to include in our needs analysis.
both downtown and the airport.

>> I知 not sure.
if not I will make sure that it's included

>> [indiscernible] christian smith on that.

>> right.
p.b.o.
has -- working on program planning guides, the different downtown tenants and that's one of the issues that they are work on the district clerk's

>> [indiscernible] all of these issues are -- we are still working on the draft.
the district -- to prove

>> [indiscernible]

>>

>> [indiscernible]

>> I get -- I hear --

>> well, that would be good to -- to know exactly how long.
they will need that space.

>> Commissioner, more than likely the space is going to end up in the new facility I知 guessing.
we really can't predict how long this will take.
the storage requirements for the -- for the material is -- is pretty lengthy, looks like.
more than likely it is advantageous to have this downtown where the criminal courts are, only an expediency that we -- that we are recommending locating it at the airport.
we would like to get it back out, back to downtown as quickly as we can.

>> I guess my concerns are -- are this is -- this is unknown as far as being temporary.
I知 just beginning to wonder if the -- if the designated footage that's being used for storage will be adequate enough for -- for any future -- any future storage needs.
other than what's available now.

>> [one moment please for change in captioners]

>> if that's what the district clerk has stated to you, I guess I知 comfortable.
I was just wondering if it was adequate enough to take care of current storage needs and future current needs as they are waiting a new space.
so anyway, you answered the question for me.

>> just out of curiosity, you may not know the answer to this question, but as it relates to unfunded mandates, do you have any idea of the square footage we are currently using to house items like this that are required to do so?

>> in terms of the district clerk, what we call involved, it actually is a quite secured space and the district clerk's criminal division on the first floor of the criminal justice center, that's only about 165 square feet.
so this represents approximately twice the size.
it's not quite as secure, but we are putting electronic measures in there to help it out.

>> and the mandate is to preserve evidenciary material for the duration of one deferral period so if they failed to meet the requirements of their deferral period, they can be successfully put to trial.
which when I say successfully put to trial, either found guilty or not.
but that the trial actually had it.

>> diewrt ration of those items -- the duration of those items have to be stored -- I think ms. Rodriguez came to the court and gave the explanation about that -- how long it's going to be there.

>> I think we understand, except I needed some additional comments.
okay.
all in favor?
it's unanimous support.
thank you.
oh, I needed a second on that.
I made a motion.

>> I seconded it.

>> I think you did.

>> I値l second again.

>> I didn't hear that.
thank you so much.

>> I intended to second.
