Travis County Commissioners Court
March 10, 2009,
Item A1
A-1 is to consider and take appropriate action to accept signed changes at county community health center sites operated by central Texas community health centers, ctchc, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation doing business as community care, and formerly community care, spelled differently, an organization affiliated with, but not owned by the Travis County health care district.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners.
sherri fleming, executive manager for Travis County health and human services and veteran service.
this action is made possible by the transition of the community health centers from the operation of the city of Austin to a nonprofit entity affiliated with the Travis County health care district.
and so your backup has examples of the sign changes that the community care organization would like to make at various county facilities.
and they are requesting your approval to make these sign changes.
these sign changes along with their dimensions and placement has also been vetted with facilities management.
and I believe your backup includes an e-mail indicating their approval.
>> the pictures on the first few pages show the existing signs.
>> yes.
>> those are the county signs?
>> yes.
>> the community unity care signs are the new ones that they propose to construct?
>> that is correct.
>> I guess their belief is that the health care part of the clinics are not highlighted sufficiently?
>> yes.
and also it's part of a rebranding effort that they have undertaken to associate the facilities with the new management and the new organization that exist to oversee them.
this also facilitates the transfer of the fqac status, the federally qualified health center status that is granted by the federal government.
it facilitates that transfer from the city of Austin to the nonprofit entity that has been formed to manage the community health centers.
>> not a real big change, but big enough for us to have to approve it.
and I guess it would give them a lot more attention and the qualified health designation is a kind of big deal.
>> a very big deal.
>> for federal funding.
questions?
>> where are these signs actually going to be located?
are they going to be out near the roadway where they can be seen?
>> I think, for example, if you look at the westbrook community center, it is actually on the property, but away from the building.
they're sort of a white blank space that sort of looks like something was left off the copy.
that's actually the marker where the sign is going to be.
so it sort of shows the sign in relationship to the building.
so not exactly on the building, but just above where the -- where I guess that would be the sidewalk before the parking area.
>> my only concern is that the new signs do not dwarf ours.
>> we've made those adjustments with the community care folks to make sure that the signs do not, you know, unintentionally offset the Travis County signs.
>> so you're coordinating with the other offices?
>> yes, absolutely.
and facilities looked at the measurements and the placements and they are -- they have approved the placement and the size of the signs.
>> move approval.
>> second.
>> roger, are these all right with you?
>> yes.
>> discussion?
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you very much.
