12. Approve modification no. 10 to contract no. 07t00004oj, waste management of Texas, for refuse collection.
>> this contract was originally awarded in 2007 for a one year contract plus three one year renewals, this modification will extend for the second one year term and increase prices for -- by 10%. When it was originally bid, we only had one other bidder, that was allied waste. This cost increase is still below allied original's bid. I believe there's still somebody here from waste management if you have any questions.
>> do you know offhand where this waste is collected? On what county property?
>> yes. It's all over the county. All the county buildings facilities, parks, expo center, del valle, all county facilities.
>> okay.
>> we approved it last year. We realized that there might be another 10% increase this year.
>> yes.
>> okay.
>> Commissioner?
>> in regard to our waste pickup all over the county, do we -- does waste management do any of our -- any of our recycling.
>> I believe they do. That's probably the question that he could answer better. But I believe they do.
>> we can get you a name for the record. Have a seat there, get comfortable.
>> daniel rumsey, an account manager here in Austin. As far as recycling we do quite a few different things. We do a variety of different things, cardboard, green buildings, we also started doing the recycling for the construction. So we can recycle any building typically that you have. So --
>> that's already part of the contract.
>> yes. It can be added to any service. As far as the contract is in place, the pricing is already -- already there for us, so it doesn't have to be added in at any time. Whatever building or -- you know, wherever you need the recycling it can be added to it.
>> bonnie is it currently interviewed in the contract.
>> we do have another contract with -- with -- I'm drawing a blank on the name right now. For pickup or recyclable material.
>> balcones?
>> I'm drawing a blank. Is it brought to -- to waste management once its --
>> yes, we have -- most of our local recycling goes to balcones here in Austin. So-- then parts of it that aren't recycled here in town go to san antonio.
>> I believe that is the right name.
>> I think that it is balcones.
>> okay. There -- after this there's another year extension at what point will we start reviewing the contract -- in light of our green initiative so that we can make sure that we are -- that we are fully considering the impacts in our green initiatives.
>> well, if we -- if we extend for one more year that would go through 2010. 2011. This will go through 2010. So we probably start looking at it in mid 2010.
>> if we -- if we wanted to look at it prior to the next extension so we could make sure that we were getting the optimal -- the optimal service mix based on our green initiative, there -- is there any issue with looking at --
>> , no,.
>> for the extension, subsequent extension.
>> we can do that at any time.
>> okay.
>> we just need to allow plenty of time before the -- before the next -- this term expires.
>> uh-huh.
>> we have purchasing representation on the green policy committee?
>> yes, yes.
>> great.
>> that particular material that is not recyclable to wmt, is that -- where is it placed? Is it placed at the 290 landfill site?
>> yes, anything that wouldn't be recycled we have two different landfills. One would be the 290 and giles road and then one in Williamson county.
